&nbsp;Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday said nothing has been discussed as yet on forming an opposition front ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Patnaik&rsquo;s statement came ahead of his scheduled &ldquo;courtesy meeting&rdquo; with Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Thursday.
Asked whether any discussion on forming a &lsquo;third front&rsquo; is on the cards with the West Bengal chief minister, the BJD president told reporters: &ldquo;Nothing has been discussed as yet.&rdquo; The TMC has decided to maintain distance from both the BJP and the Congress and Banerjee last week held a meeting with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav in Kolkata.
The SP is also following a policy of maintaining equidistance from the two major political camps.
The TMC supremo reached Odisha on Tuesday evening on a three-day visit during which she will also offer puja at the Jagannath temple in Puri.
Before leaving for Bhubaneswar, Banerjee told reporters at the Kolkata airport that she will hold a "courtesy meeting" with Patnaik.&nbsp;

As Amritpal Singh remains untraceable, Punjab police release his possible looks

The police have appealed to people to help them in tracing him.

After Amritpal Singh, the self-styled Sikh preacher managed to give police a slip after changing his vehicle on Saturday when police had launched a crackdown against him and his outfit 'Waris Punjab De', Punhab Police on Tuesday released seven photographs of the Khalistan sympathiser, including some in which he is not wearing a turban, to seek public help to nab the fugitive.
The police have appealed to people to help them in tracing him.
In some of the pictures, Singh, who claims to be an ardent follower of Jarnail Singh Bhinderwala, is seen clean shaven and without turban.&nbsp;
Earlier in the day, a CCTV footage of Amritpal Singh emerged showing him evading police hunt in a car at a toll plaza.&nbsp;

There was disruption in mobile services in some parts of the Jammu region immediately after the earthquake, an official said

Strong tremors jolted parts of north India, including Delhi-NCR, on Tuesday night as an earthquake of magnitude 6.6 struck the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan.
Panic-stricken people rushed out of buildings as the earthquake struck around 10.20 pm and was also felt in Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan.
There was disruption in mobile services in some parts of the Jammu region immediately after the earthquake, an official said.
There was no immediate report of any loss of life or property.

According to an automated report generated by the National Centre for Seismology, the 6.6 magnitude quake struck 133 km southeast of Fayzabad in Afghanistan. The earthquake was at a depth of 156 km.

As per India Today, the observation were made during the hearing on a plea seeking a ban on the punishment of death by hanging.&nbsp;

The Supreme Court on Tuesday commuted the death sentence of a man, who had kidnapped and killed a seven-year-old boy in Tamil Nadu in 2009, to 20-year imprisonment, saying there was "possibility of reformation" even though he has committed a ghastly crime.
Calling on the Centre to reflect and respond to the issue, the&nbsp; top court pointed out if execution of the death penalty by hanging is "humane".
As per India Today, the observation were made during the hearing on a plea seeking a ban on the punishment of death by hanging.&nbsp;
The top court said even though the crime committed by the man is unquestionably grave and unpardonable, it is not appropriate to affirm the death sentence that was awarded to him.

When reporters sought a reaction from Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, he said Chinchansur had come from the Congress and was going back to the same party.

BJP leader Baburao Chinchansur, believed to be one of those who played a key role in defeating AICC president M Mallikarjun Kharge, in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, appears set to join the Congress in Karnataka.
Chinchansur, a prominent leader of the Koli-Kabbaliga community in the Kalyana Karnataka region, resigned from his post of Member of the Legislative Council on Monday.
He had represented Gurmitkal assembly constituency in Kalaburagi district from 2008 to 2018, and was a Minister in the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government earlier. However, he quit the Congress in 2018 after his defeat in the assembly election and joined the BJP.

Congress sources said Chinchansur is expected to join the party in the coming days.
Earlier this month, another BJP MLC Puttanna resigned from the Legislative Council and joined the Congress.
When reporters sought a reaction from Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, he said Chinchansur had come from the Congress and was going back to the same party. He added that the BJP was strong in Gurmitkal and Chinchansur quitting the party would not have any effect on the party&rsquo;s prospects there.
Assembly elections in Karnataka are due by May.
BJP stalwart and former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa refused to discuss the issue of Chinchansur's switching of loyalties, as he had already quit.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia who is in judicial custody in connection with the alleged Delhi excise policy scam in his bail plea on Tuesday told a Delhi court that his wife was unwell and his son was studying abroad, and hence it was his responsibility to look after her.
Opposing Sisodia's bail, the Central Bureau of Investigation said he could influence witnsess and hamper the probe by destroying or hiding the evidence, if set free.
The former Delhi minister contended that he cooperated with the probe agency &nbsp;and searches did not reveal any incriminating evidence against him. His lawyer argued that Sisodia was not a flight risk, and that his custodial probe was also needed anymore.
In response, CBI counsel said the probe agency has 60 days' time to file the chargesheet and investigation will be seriously compromised if Sisodia is granted bail, NDTV reported.
Meanwhile, the court on Tuesday sought the Enforcement Directorate's response on a bail plea of former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia in the money laundering case.
On March 17, the court extended the ED custody of the AAP leader by five days till March 22.
The ED arrested Sisodia on March 9 in the Tihar Jail, where he was lodged in connection with a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case about alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy for 2021-22. The CBI arrested Sisodia on February 26.

After Amritpal Singh's video crossing a toll plaza reportedly in Punjab's Jalandhar came to light, state's IGP Sukhchain Singh Gill has said that the Brezza car, in which Amritpal Singh fled, has been recovered by the Police adding that Singh was helped by four people.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Gill further said, arms Act has been invoked against four people who helped the Khalistani separatist.
Revealing details of the investigation amid the manhunt, the official said that after fleeing, Singh visited the Gurudwara in Nangal Ambian village (in Jalandhar district) &amp; changed his clothes before fleeing again.
This came to be known in the questioning of the 4 people who have been nabbed.

The Congress on Sunday stepped up its attack on the Centre over allegations against the Adani group, alleging that the Modi government's "loud silence" over the issue "smacks of collusion".
Adani group stocks have taken a beating on the bourses after US-based activist short-seller Hindenburg Research made a litany of allegations, including fraudulent transactions and share price manipulation at the Gautam Adani-led group.
In a statement, Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh said that starting Sunday the Congress will pose three questions a day to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue.
He said that amid the allegations against the Adani Group, the Modi government has maintained a "loud silence which smacks of collusion".
Ramesh said that in a response to the Panama Papers expose on April 4, 2016, the Ministry of Finance had announced that Modi had personally directed a multi-agency investigative group to monitor financial flows to and from offshore tax havens.
