BJP releases 'sting operation'; Sisodia links 'suicide' of CBI officer to pressure: Delhi liquor 'scam'

Opening a fresh front in the political war over an alleged liquor scam in Delhi, the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party released a "sting operation" targeting the Aam Aadmi Party government.

BJP on 5 September 2022 claimed that the sting video showed the father of one of the accused saying that he paid commission to acquire liquor licences in the national capital. BJP claimed that the sting operation revealed that 80% profit was given to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Sisodia, and others.

The video allegedly features Kulvinder Marwah, the father of Sunny Marwah, accused number 13 in the liquor scam case. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is also an accused in the case.

Meanwhile, Sisodia linked the alleged suicide of a CBI officer to pressure from BJP. The Delhi Deputy CM claimed that the CBI officer was being pressured to frame him in a false excise case, and couldn't handle the mental pressure, leading to suicide. On 1 September 2022, CBI's deputy legal advisor Jitendra Kumar was found hanging at his house in south Delhi.

Sisodia also ridiculed the BJP's sting video, saying, "They stood on the road, sat someone in a car, and asked them some question. Is it a sting?"

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating alleged irregularities in Delhi government's Excise Policy 2021-22, which has since been scrapped.
