Farmers from across the nation participate in the Bharat Bandh, as they mark one year of the contentious farm laws.

Hundreds of farmers blocked the Delhi-Haryana national highway leading to massive traffic jams. Many gathered at the railway lines in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, and Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh to observe the Bharat Bandh that began on Monday morning at 6 am and will go on till 4 pm.

Reiterating his demand of repealing the farm laws, Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait informed that Ambulances, doctors or those going for an emergency can pass through. He added that the farmers have not sealed down anything. He also requested the shopkeepers to keep their shops closed and open only after 4 pm.

Parts of the national capital witnessed traffic snarls on Monday morning as police closed some key roads to prevent any untoward incident during the Bharat Bandh called by farm unions against the Centre’s three farm laws.

The Delhi Police has increased security checks at its border points which led to the slowing down of traffic and it informed commuters about road closures and traffic snarls on Twitter.

According to police, roads around the historic Red Fort as well as the dual carriageway at Ghazipur border were closed for traffic.
