Days after the murder of five members of family in Khevrajpur village in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj, the Trinamool Congress party attacked the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government. Four leaders of Mamata Banerjee's party visited the village as part of a "fact-finding" mission following the crime.

After speaking to the relatives of the victims, the TMC leaders alleged a cover-up by the administration, and the media. The TMC team claimed that police had refused to file a rape case despite the victims' family making the allegation.

In a video posted by TMC on Twitter, a relative of the victims said, "My wife and my sister were raped. Their bodies were without clothes. This is a big conspiracy. We want a CBI investigation. Only my 3–4-year-old daughter is alive. Her education should be taken care of, and I should be given a government job."

The five people had been killed on the night of April 22, allegedly with sharp-edged weapons. The youngest victim was 2 years old, while the oldest was 55 years old. The murder occurred when the victim's son was attending a wedding. The head of the family was found hanging, and there was a fire in the bedroom.

On April 23, police had said that no evidence of rape was found, but vaginal slide and swab of the deceased women had been sent for analysis.
