PM Modi wasn't born into OBC category, misleading everyone: Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is lying about him belonging to the Other Backwards Category (OBC). Addressing a rally in Odisha's Jharsuguda during Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Gandhi said that Modi is not allowing caste census to happen because he belongs to the general category.

"You all are being misled. PM Modi was not born in the OBC category. He was born Teli caste in Gujarat. The community was given the tag of OBC in the year 2000 by the BJP. He was born in the general caste," he said.

"He will not allow caste census to be conducted in his entire life because he was not born in OBC, he was born in general caste," he added.

Gandhi also alleged that the prime minister does not shake hands with OBCs, but “hugs billionaires”.

Clad in a white t-shirt, the former Congress president resumed the yatra on Thursday from the Old Bus Stand here and moved towards Kissan Chowk in an open jeep. He was accompanied by AICC leader Ajoy Kumar and OPCC president Sarat Pattnayak, reports PTI news agency.

The yatra will enter Chhattisgarh in the afternoon from Odisha.
