PM Modi Plants Sindoor Sapling Symbolizing 1971 Courage

PM Modi Plants Sindoor Sapling Symbolizing 1971 Courage

New Delhi, Jun 5 (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked World Environment Day by planting a 'sindoor' sapling at his residence. The sapling was gifted to him by a group of courageous women from the 1971 war era. This act holds symbolic significance, aligning with the recent Operation Sindoor.

In a message shared on X, Modi emphasized that the sapling will stand as a powerful symbol of the bravery and inspiration of Indian women. During a recent visit to Kutch, these women, who exhibited remarkable courage during the 1971 conflict, met with the Prime Minister and presented him with the sapling. Touched by their gesture, Modi pledged to plant it at his 7, Lok Kalyan Marg residence.

The selection of the 'sindoor' sapling is significant. India's military operation in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 was named Operation Sindoor. This was done to signify its commitment to countering the targeted killings carried out by terrorists, who selected their victims based on religious profiling. Sindoor, or vermilion, traditionally worn by married Hindu women, holds a deep religious and cultural connection in Indian tradition.

In a video address, Modi stressed the importance of global unity for climate protection. This year's World Environment Day theme focuses on ending plastic pollution. Modi highlighted India's dedicated effort over the past four to five years toward this cause. He mentioned Mission LiFE, which promotes the mindful use of resources and embracing sustainable lifestyles, is gaining global traction. Millions have embraced the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle in everyday life.

Modi urged everyone to intensify efforts in protecting the planet and addressing environmental challenges. He also lauded those at the grassroots level committed to making the environment greener and better.
