Pawan Khera Criticizes EC, Seeks Clarifications on Electoral Roll Revisions

Patna, Oct 28 (PTI) Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera criticized the Election Commission on Tuesday following the announcement regarding the second phase of the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 additional states. Khera questioned why the poll panel had not addressed concerns raised by the party during the exercise in Bihar.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, during a press conference held on Monday, stated that the EC plans to conduct the second phase of SIR between November and February in 12 more states and Union Territories, which includes West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry, all of which are gearing up for elections.

Khera, who is in charge of Congress' media and publicity, urged the EC to publicize the guidelines for conducting the SIR in these states and Union Territories. “What about the difficulties faced during SIR in Bihar? What happened to the replies that we are expecting from the EC on the issues raised by us during SIR in Bihar? The Supreme Court had to intervene in it… In fact, the EC has lost its credibility,” he told PTI Video upon his arrival in Patna.

Furthermore, Khera demanded clarification from the EC on whether it would adhere to the 2003 guidelines while conducting the SIR in additional states.

Discussing the INDIA bloc’s poll manifesto, Khera mentioned that it will outline the “vision, policies and measures to make a new Bihar”, which he claimed has suffered from “anti-people policies of the NDA government for the last 20 years”.

Addressing the controversy surrounding Bihar Congress’ recent social media post, which highlighted a poster of Rahul Gandhi referring to him as ‘Jan Nayak’ (hero of the people), Khera asserted, “This title has been bestowed on him by the people… it is their sentiments... what can we say.” The term has traditionally been associated with the late Karpoori Thakur, a former chief minister of Bihar, who was posthumously honored with the Bharat Ratna a year ago.
