Pathankot Schools Close Due to Heavy Rains, Border Villages Affected

Chandigarh, Aug 25 (PTI) The Pathankot district administration has announced a holiday for all educational institutions due to ongoing heavy rains, officials have reported. Several villages near the India-Pakistan border in Pathankot district, Punjab, are experiencing disruptions after water levels in the Ujh and Ravi rivers, along with local rivulets, surged following intense rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. "Considering the continual rainfall in Pathankot district, a holiday has been declared for all government and non-government schools, colleges, and educational institutions in the district on August 25," read an order from Pathankot Deputy Commissioner, Aditya Uppal. Punjab Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak visited the affected areas on Sunday to assess the situation, promising that the state government will provide compensation for any incurred losses. With the heavy flow of water in the Ujh and Ravi rivers, along with seasonal rivulets, the situation in villages along the Indo-Pak border remains serious.
