Dazzling visuals of what appears to be a meteor shower were captured by residents in central India. Blazing streaks of lights were captured on camera by people in many parts of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The lights were sighted in Maharashtra's Nagpur, and Jhabua and Barwani in Madhya Pradesh, as per reports.

A scientist claimed on Twitter that it was actually a Chinese rocket burning up on re-entry into Earth.

Meteors are rocks from outer space which enter the Earth's atmosphere at very high speeds. In the process, they heat up and turn into fireballs or 'shooting stars'.
They usually vaporise in the short journey.

According to American space agency NASA, the Lyrids meteor showers are common in April. The Lyrids are one of the oldest known meteor showers, having been observed for 2,700 years.
