Odisha Faces Heavy Rainfall Amid Low-Pressure Alert: IMD Warns

Bhubaneswar, Sept 3 (PTI) — For the third day in a row, Odisha continued to endure heavy rainfall on Wednesday, with little hope for improvement anytime soon.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that the low-pressure area responsible for the relentless downpour is projected to move west-northwestwards across the state over the next 24 hours.

With this low-pressure system evolving into a 'well-marked' system, the IMD warned that Odisha should brace for further rainfall.

Given the turbulent sea conditions, fishermen have been advised to stay ashore.

Amid such adverse weather conditions, the IMD has cautioned residents to remain indoors for safety.

Normal life has been disrupted across the state, with numerous areas suffering from waterlogging. In particular, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, and Bolangir are among the worst hit districts, officials reported.

Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari noted that the central government has already approved a proposal to install a Doppler Radar System in Bhubaneswar, a tool that will enhance the accuracy of weather forecasts and give authorities a crucial head start in preparing for such events.

He added that similar facilities are slated for development in Balasore and Sambalpur.
