Odisha Administrative Service Officers Postpone Mass Leave After CM's Assurance

Odisha Administrative Service officers have postponed their mass leave protest after CM Mohan Charan Majhi's assurance of action against those involved in an assault on a senior officer. Meanwhile, sanitation workers in Bhubaneswar are protesting, demanding arrests.

Odisha Administrative Service Officers Postpone Mass Leave After CM's Assurance

Bhubaneswar, Jul 1 (PTI) An association of Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officers has decided to pause their planned 'mass leave' protest after Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi assured them of strict action against those involved in the alleged assault of their senior colleague, an official announced on Tuesday.

The Odisha Administrative Service Association had planned for its members to take 'mass leave' starting Tuesday in protest against the alleged assault on a senior OAS officer that occurred on Monday.

In a statement by OAS Association president Jyoti Ranjan Mishra, it was conveyed, "The CM has assured the association that the culprits and those behind the incident, regardless of their power, will face strict legal action." On Majhi's appeal, the association has decided not to proceed with the leave or take any such drastic measures, according to Mishra.

“Therefore, respecting the CM's appeal, the mass leave set for July 1 is not called off but is postponed,” he stated.

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahoo was reportedly dragged from his office and assaulted by some miscreants on Monday, according to police reports.

"The police have arrested three individuals, including a BJP corporator, Jeevan Rout, in connection with the assault, and are actively searching for others involved," an officer revealed.

The state government held two meetings with representatives from the OAS association on Monday night, an official said.

"The first meeting involved Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja and DGP Y B Khurania. Subsequently, another extended meeting was held, chaired by the chief minister and attended by the chief secretary, DGP, police commissioner, and advocate general. This meeting continued till midnight," he noted.

Meanwhile, sanitation workers in Bhubaneswar have ceased their services in protest against the assault on the BMC's additional commissioner. They demand the immediate arrest of all those accused in the incident.
