A court here on Monday extended the judicial custody by 14 days of social media influencer Jyoti Malhotra arrested last month on the suspicion of espionage.
The Hisar Police arrested Malhotra, who ran a YouTube channel 'Travel with JO', on the suspicion of espionage on May 16. Hailing from Hisar, the Youtuber was arrested at the New Aggarsain Extension and booked under provisions of the Official Secrets Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Malhotra's lawyer Kumar Mukesh said, "Her judicial remand has been further extended by 14 days and the next date of hearing has been fixed by the court on July 7." The 33-year-old YouTuber appeared before the court through video-conferencing, he said.
Earlier on June 9, another court here had rejected her regular bail plea.
Police had opposed the bail and argued that the investigation in this case was still going on.
After her arrest on May 16, Malhotra was remanded to five days of police custody by the court.
Following the completion of the remand, the court extended the custody by four more days after the police sought to question her further.
On May 26, the court remanded her to judicial custody for 14 days, which was further extended later.
The Hisar Police previously said no evidence had emerged to indicate Malhotra had access to any military or defence-related information but claimed she was in contact with some people, aware that they were Pakistani intelligence operatives.
Police sources had previously said she was in touch with Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, a staffer at the Pakistani High Commission, since November 2023.
India expelled Danish on May 13 for allegedly indulging in espionage.
Police had last month claimed that Pakistani intelligence operatives were developing Malhotra as an "asset".

The company, having presence in the country with two brands - Colgate and Palmolive - currently operates in the oral care and personal care, and is in "active ongoing conversation" with the parent firm for expanding the portfolio.
"We are very excited about what all we can do in India, both with our existing brands and portfolio, and with what we can do with the things that we can bring in from the globe. We have tremendous support from our global counterparts in terms of their excitement about what we can achieve in India," Narasimhan told PTI.
About the Palmolive brand, which is currently operating in the personal care space with a premium body wash and hand wash range, Narasimhan said, they have tremendous potential and grow at 20 to 30 per cent CAGR.
When asked as whether Colgate-Palmolive India Ltd (CPIL) will extend the brand Palmolive in new segments, she added she would rather focus on introducing more brands.
"Actually, more than extending the brand Palmolive, we have a lot of products portfolio that is available globally. We are looking to see what of that product portfolio can legitimately be brought into India and make sense for the Indian consumer, and leverage the strengths that Colgate Palmolive India has. So that's a very active ongoing conversation," she added.
CPIL, which has been operating in India for the last 88 years, currently contributes around 4 to 5 per cent of the global revenue of the Midtown Manhattan, New York City-based multinational consumer products major Colgate-Palmolive Company.
According to Narasimhan, "in the coming years, the contribution of India will certainly increase." India, with its over 1.4 billion population, is always a "central part" of Colgate's global strategy and is now among five markets, which are called out as being the drivers of growth.
"If you listen to our global CEO... who was speaking even recently at a conference where he talked about the fact that India will add more middle-class people in the next few years than any other country in the world, and therefore represents a tremendous opportunity for us," she said.
Besides, on the channel side, CPIL, as per its strategy, is also extending its play into the fast-growing e-commerce channels, by adding more digital-first brands, exclusive to online sales channels. It has launched Colgate Purple and Max Fresh Sensories range, mouthwash sticks, which is for a small audience in the market.
"We have quite a few, and we have a pipeline of many more," she added.
However, she also added that traditional trade, which is neighbourhood kirana stores, is actually the bulk of CPIL's business and critical for the company. It has a "tremendous relationship" with its distributors, many of whom have been with it for decades.
Earlier in May, All India Consumer Products Distributors Federation (AICPDF), an umbrella body of FMCG distributors pan-India, had called for the suspension of the purchase of all products of CPIL in Maharashtra, alleging deep discounting by it in favour of quick commerce channels.
However, Narasimhan said there is "enough room" for all the channels in the market.
Talking about the trend of consumers becoming more health-conscious, seeking better products and organic options, Narasimhan said consumers buy benefits and CPIL has the right science to deliver all of these benefits.
Recently, the oral care segment has witnessed heightened competition, where several brands have launched their toothpaste based on ingredients derived from traditional ayurveda and organic options.
"Indian consumers are sensible enough to know that they look for a benefit, they find products that deliver to that benefit, and that's our primary job," she said.

As bodies of Air India plane crash victims were charred beyond recognition, characteristics, such as metal rods in persons who had undergone surgeries in the past, proved crucial in the identification process, a local MLA involved in tagging corpses after the deadly tragedy said on Monday.
BJP MLA Dr Hasmukh Patel was one of the first legislators to reach the post-mortem section of the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, where bodies were brought in after the crash in which 270 people lost their lives on June 12.
Considering the magnitude of the accident, it was evident that the identification of victims was going to be difficult, Patel told PTI.
"The (BJP) MLAs got a message from the party to reach the crash site, but it was chaotic. I called the civil hospital and was told that bodies were being brought there," he said.
By the time Patel, a doctor who had had a private practice for years, reached the facility, seven to eight bodies had been brought to the post-mortem section, and they were completely charred, he said.
The legislator from Amraiwadi said some bodies were burnt to such an extent that parts of them were coming off.
"We started tagging the bodies with tapes with the sequence of their arrivals. The tags would be put with the cotton tape on the body parts wherever possible &mdash; head, chest, arm," he said.
Under normal circumstances, victims would have been identified with the help of physical traits such as hair and ornaments on their person.
However, with the temperature reaching over 1000 degrees Celsius in the aircraft at the time of the crash, even this is of little help, he said.
Patel said, "We soon observed that although some bodies were charred, we could make out that some of the victims had undergone knee replacement surgeries and some had (surgical) plates, rods inserted in their bodies for medical reasons. We noted down these characterises along with the tags." The BJP deputed Patel to assist relatives in identifying bodies and giving samples for DNA matching.
"Bodies with specific physical characteristics were isolated. When relatives started pouring in, they were asked to provide basic details about the victims. The characteristics noted down while tagging the bodies helped in matching the DNA of some victims, making the process easier," he said.
Last week, the hospital authorities said bodies were being handed over to the families after the DNA match.
Officials on Sunday said 251 victims of the horrific June 12 Ahmedabad plane crash have been identified through DNA tests so far, and 245 bodies have been handed over to families.
A London-bound Air India flight crashed into a hostel complex in the Meghaninagar area moments after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on the afternoon of June 12, killing 270 persons, including 241 on board.
One passenger survived.
Patel, who has been a part of the BJP's doctor cell for nearly two decades, recalled a similar incident in 1988 when an Indian Airlines flight from Mumbai (then Bombay) to Ahmedabad crashed, killing 133 persons.
He was a second-year student at the B.J.M Medical College, which incidentally was the site of the June 12 crash.
Even at that time, Patel volunteered to tag the dead bodies with his classmates.
Patel, who went on to complete his MD in Pathology, described both the incidents as heart-rendering.
"I was unable to sleep for a week after the June 12 incident. I was active physically, but then I would have issues sleeping due to the horrific nature of the incident. As a doctor, I have been trained to handle such situations, but this was different, just like the previous air crash in 1988," he said.

The sea surface in Asia is also warming at nearly double the global average over the past decades, said the World Meteorological Organization&rsquo;s &ldquo;State of the Climate in Asia in 2024&rdquo; report.
&ldquo;In the two most recent subperiods (1961-1990 and 1991-2024), Asia, the continent with the largest land mass, extending to the Arctic, has warmed faster than the global land and ocean average,&rdquo; the report said.
In 2024, the average temperature in Asia was about 1.04 degrees Celsius above the 1991-2020 average, making it either the warmest or second warmest year on record, depending on the dataset.

Prolonged heatwaves hit East Asia from April to November. Japan, the Republic of Korea and China broke monthly average temperature records repeatedly.
India reported nearly 48,000 cases of heatstroke and 159 deaths due to extreme heat in 2024.

Tharoor also talked about the engagements in Washington DC.
"Even as a Pakistani delegation was simultaneously present, we found US representatives, including those who met the Pakistani officials, echoing our concerns and urging decisive action against terror groups such as the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed," Tharoor said.
Following the Pahalgam attack, Tharoor has been making comments on the India-Pakistan conflict and the diplomatic outreach that are at variance with the stand of the Congress, which has been questioning the government over US President Donald Trump's claims of mediating a ceasefire between the two countries.
He has often drawn criticism from his own party and jibes aimed at him by Congress leaders for his stand.

Barhi Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Johan Tudu said they were sleeping in their room when the roof of their room collapsed on them and they died on the spot.
Other members of the house remained unaffected as they were sleeping in separate rooms, he said.
The SDO said the bodies were sent for postmortem at the Barhi Sub Division Hospital.
He said that the relief and grants would be provided to the family as per the government rule.
Ansari and Khatun were parents of five children including three daughters and two sons. The elder daughter is married.
"Ansari was the sole bread earner of the family. Two girls are below 18 years of age. So, the administration has decided to admit them in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Hazaribag," Tudu said.
After seeing the condition of the family, the SDO provided 50 kg of ration and Rs 10,000 in cash for immediate relief.
He said that the family would receive Rs 4 lakh as compensation for each death under the disaster management department. "The document regarding this is being prepared and it will be soon submitted to the deputy commissioner," he added. The SDO added, "We have ordered a survey of old and dilapidated houses in the area in a bid to avoid such incidents."

Congress leader D K Suresh, the younger brother of Karnataka deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar, appeared before the federal probe agency and recorded his statement in this case on Monday in Bengaluru.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested the woman -- 33-year-old Aishwarya Gowda -- earlier in April following searches against her, Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni and some others.
The provisionally attached properties include flats, building and land worth Rs 2.01 crore apart from cash and Rs 1.97 crore vehicle, the ED said in a statement.
An order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) was issued on June 19 for attaching these properties, it added.
The total value of the attached properties is Rs 3.98 crore, the ED said.
The ED did not specify in the statement as to whom the attached assets belonged to.
The money laundering case against Gowda, her husband Harish K N and some others stems from multiple FIRs filed by Karnataka Police against them.
The allegation in the FIRs is that Gowda, her husband and others have entered into a "criminal conspiracy" to defraud and cheat several individuals by taking gold, cash and funds through bank accounts promising high rate of returns, the agency said.
However, it said, that the accused neither returned the money nor gave the promised return and also "threatened" the investors of dire consequences in case of further pursuance of the matter by "claiming her proximity to various high profile politicians".
Gowda is alleged to have used the name of D K Suresh, a former MP, and claimed to be his sister. Suresh had denied knowing her and filed a police complaint against her.
He spoke to the press in Bengaluru before appearing before the agency.
"The ED issued a notice asking me to appear before the investigation officer at 11 am. So, accordingly, I am reaching there. They had sought some information. So, today I am meeting the ED officers with my lawyer," Suresh said.
He said that this case was unrelated to him.
"I am unable to understand why the notice was served to me. I was the one who had lodged a complaint with the police commissioner against the woman, who had orally said that she is my sister. I have no connection with the cheating case," Suresh said.

Odisha is seeking to ease environmental restrictions to promote tourism inside and around some of its most ecologically sensitive regions, including tiger reserves and Ramsar wetlands, official records show.
Experts have flagged the move as "dangerous" for conservation efforts and tribal rights.
According to minutes of a high-level meeting chaired by the Odisha chief secretary on May 30, the state plans to revisit and amend Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) notifications to remove clauses prohibiting construction and commercial activities.
It also plans to request the Centre to allow forest land to be used for non-site-specific purposes such as hospitality infrastructure and to re-examine Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) classifications to accommodate more tourism projects along the coast.
ESZs are buffer areas created around protected forests, wildlife sanctuaries and national parks to protect wildlife and biodiversity from harmful human activities such as mining, construction and polluting industries. Activities like farming, eco-tourism and the use of renewable energy are usually allowed with restrictions.
These buffer areas between wildlife habitats and human-dominated regions act as "shock absorbers", said B K Singh, a retired Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer.
"The move is definitely not in the interest of conservation and will lead to a rise in human-wildlife conflict, as seen in the case of Dhenkanal, where human-elephant conflict has increased over the years," he said.
Retd IFS officer and ESZ guidelines author Prakriti Srivastava said the guidelines were designed to limit human impact, reduce human-wildlife conflict and maintain wildlife corridors.
In a state like Odisha, where 149 people died in elephant encounters in 2023&ndash;24, the push to restrict ESZs and promote commercial activity reflects "double standards and endangers both people and wildlife", she said.
The minutes of meeting (MoM) note that the current "no commercial/no construction" clause in ESZ notifications "does not accurately reflect the enabling spirit" of the 2011 guidelines issued by the Centre.
"ESZs notified/to be notified should be discussed with the Department of Tourism (DoT) and the tourism master plan should be taken into consideration," the MoM read.
The Odisha Coastal Zone Management Authority has been asked to re-examine CRZ classifications to support tourism in areas having "extremely high potential".
The state has also decided to set up an empowered committee under the chairpersonship of the additional chief secretary, Forest and Environment Department, to discuss issues relating to tourism projects vis-a-vis forest clearance and ESZs.
However, independent ecologists, wildlife scientists or tribal representatives are absent from the panel.
Experts say Odisha's move could allow economic interests to shape regulatory frameworks meant for ecological protection and mark a dangerous departure from India's legal and ecological commitments.
"The State is the constitutional trustee of forests and wildlife, with a mandate to safeguard these natural assets," Debadityo Sinha, Lead - Climate &amp; Ecosystems at the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, said.
"A directive that requires states to merely 'take into consideration' the tourism master plan while notifying ESZs raises serious concerns. It implies that economic interests may override ecological imperatives," he said.
The Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, prohibits commercial construction inside national parks and sanctuaries unless it directly supports conservation or is part of approved low-impact tourism.
Forest land diversion for non-site-specific purposes such as resorts would require forest clearance under the Van (Sanrakshan Evam Samvardhan) Adhiniyam, 1980, and the consent of local Gram Sabhas under the Forest Rights Act, 2006.
The state's proposal to remove ESZ construction restrictions is also at odds with the June 2022 directions of the Supreme Court mandating a minimum one-kilometre buffer around all protected areas to safeguard wildlife habitats, according to Srivastava.
Sinha said the state's plan also contradicts the National Forest Policy, 1988, which clearly states that the derivation of direct economic benefit must be subordinate to environmental stability and the maintenance of ecological balance.
It appears the meeting did not deliberate on ecological assessments such as carrying capacity studies, environmental impact assessments or any scientific evaluation of the consequences of tourism activities on natural ecosystems and wildlife, he said.
Such vague and arbitrary administrative directions not only violate statutory mandates under forest and wildlife laws, but also risk setting a dangerous precedent. They jeopardise Odisha's rich biodiversity and undermine both national and international obligations, he added.

Ahead of the 50th anniversary of the Emergency's imposition in 1975, Dattatreya, who was an RSS functionary at that time, shared his personal experiences of evading arrest and his imprisonment.
Upon declaration of Emergency on June 25, 1975, he had received instructions to avoid arrest as many activists were already rounded up.
"The rules of the Constitution that safeguard democracy were all crushed (during Emergency)," he told PTI Videos here.
To evade authorities, he said he went underground and adopted a new appearance by wearing a suit and tie and even changed his name to 'Dharmendra'.
His primary role while underground was to organise activists across various locations against the Emergency, and also ensuring their safety and providing support to the families of leaders who were arrested.
In one instance, Dattatreya and fellow activists attempted to hold a covert political meeting under the guise of a Satyanarayana Puja near a temple.
As police converged on the location, Dattatreya said he and present Tripura Governor N Indrasena Reddy managed to escape by scaling a 20-foot wall.
While Reddy escaped unharmed, Dattatreya hurt his leg in the process.
Eventually, he was arrested and imprisoned under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA). and lodged in Chanchalguda Jail in Hyderabad, where he was held alongside several political prisoners.
During his incarceration, he learned of his elder brother's demise. He was granted parole to attend the funeral, during which he was advised by a relative to secure his release through a deal by giving in writing to the government that he would not be part of such activities again.
However, encouragement from his mother strengthened his resolve to stay committed to the cause.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday ordered immediate renovation of hostels in the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) after a meeting with students as she slammed the previous government over the poor state of facilities at the institution.
The discussion with MAMC students at the Delhi Secretariat focused on key concerns such as the dilapidated condition of hostels, campus security, poor lighting, shortage of security personnel, illegal encroachments, and the need to ensure a fear-free environment for students, an official statement said.
Gupta directed all concerned officials to take immediate and concrete measures. Senior officials from the Health Department, Public Works Department (PWD), college administration, and student union representatives were present during the meeting, it said.
Last week, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, along with Gupta and Health Minister Pankaj Singh, chaired a meeting to review the security and other infrastructure in MAMC, Lok Nayak Hospital, GB Pant Hospital, and the Guru Nanak Eye Centre Complex situated in the heart of the national capital.
During the meeting it was found that there were lapses in the security of the students and doctors and there was an acute shortage of accommodation.
Civil infrastructure is in shambles in these hospitals and there is a severe lack of space due to encroachments, officials had informed the LG in the meeting.
Gupta met the doctors on Monday at Delhi Secretariat.
"I am shocked at the irresponsibility of the previous educated governments. It&rsquo;s appalling to see the poor state of such a prestigious institution like Maulana Azad Medical College and the condition of the students studying here," she said.
Students highlighted the poor condition of hostel walls and ceilings, which pose a risk to life and safety, the statement said, adding that the lack of adequate lighting at night inside the campus also makes it unsafe.
Female students particularly raised concerns over the shortage of security guards, insufficient facilities, and an unsafe environment. Encroachments within the campus were also reported as a daily obstacle.
Expressing deep concern over the state of MAMC hostels, Gupta said that the seven hostels built between 1966 and 1990 were designed for only 1,200 students. Currently around 3,200 students are residing there in extremely cramped and substandard conditions with eight beds in a room, shared cupboards and no provision for basic amenities like study tables.
She termed this situation as "gravely concerning" and indicative of the severe negligence and lack of accountability on the part of previous governments.
Gupta directed PWD officials to immediately begin repair and renovation work of the hostels to improve living conditions. She further directed that high-intensity LED street lights be installed across the campus to enhance night-time safety, the statement added.
Additionally, 24x7 CCTV surveillance and increased deployment of security personnel will strengthen overall security. A special drive will be launched to ensure smoother movement and a safer environment within the campus.
She also directed to expedite plan for an additional hostel which has been pending for long time. Gupta directed officials to submit progress reports every 15 days to ensure regular monitoring and accountability.
She also said that she will personally visit the MAMC campus to inspect the situation and engage directly with students. "Students of prestigious institutions like MAMC are our future, and we will extend every possible support to them," Gupta added.
