'No help from embassy': Indian with 3 bullet injuries in Ukraine's Kyiv waits at hospital | Russia war

Harjot Singh, an Indian student who suffered bullet injuries in Ukraine, claimed that he is yet to receive help from Indian embassy officials.

Describing his ordeal from a hospital bed in Ukraine's capital Kyiv, Harjot said that he suffered three bullet injuries when he was travelling in a taxi in Kyiv on February 27, the fourth day of the war. Harjot had been trying to flee from Kyiv to Lviv, but had been turned back at a checkpoint. Bullets hit his left knee, struck his chest, and passed through his right leg.

Harjot regained consciousness 4 days later, on March 2, at the Kyiv Clinical Hospital. He said, "I've been given a new life. I want to return to India and spend time with my family. Hospital provided me with my phone when I regained consciousness. I tried to get in touch with embassy officials. Embassy has shifted to Lviv. I haven't received any support so far. I was speaking to them daily and they used to promise help. But there's a big difference between promising and doing. I haven't received any support yet. I can't walk. My leg is plastered. I need help in getting out of here. Embassy should provide me help. Someone can help me cross the border on a wheelchair. Someone should help me with the documentation. God has given me life, and I want to live it. If a chartered plane is sent after I die, then it doesn't matter."

On March 1, the Indian government had claimed that no Indians remained in Kyiv, according to information available.
