No confidence motion against Modi govt: here's what happened in 2018

As Congress moves a no-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi govt on July 26 over the violence in Manipur, here's a look at what happened in 2018.

In July 2018, then Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu's Telegu Desam Party introduced a no-confidence motion against the BJP govt saying the Centre was not giving adequate funds to the state.

The Modi govt defeated the motion with 325 votes. Only 126 MPs had supported the no-confidence motion. The BJD and the Shiv Sena did not take part in the vote.

Prime Minister's reply to the no-confidence motion lasted over 90 minutes while the entire debate went on for over 12 hours.

The highlight of the debate on the no-confidence motion was however Rahul Gandhi walking up to the Prime Minister and hugging him. What added to it was Rahul Gandhi's wink to fellow Congress leaders after he came back.

The social-media-frenzy-creating moment was followed by a repartee from the Prime Minister himself.

During his speech, Modi referred to Gandhi's wink and said 'Everyone can see the games eyes are playing'.

He also taunted Rahul Gandhi for coming up to his seat and said 'what's the hurry to come here? Only people of India can make somebody sit here.'
