No-confidence debate: Manipur HC order fuelled unrest, says Amit Shah

Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the Manipur High Court order asking state government to consider granting tribal status to Meitei community fuelled the ethnic clashes in Manipur.

Shah further said that the Centre had taken swift action and by May 4 changed the DGP and Chief Secretary of Manipur. The violence had started on May 3.

A no-confidence motion debate against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government is under way in the Lok Sabha. In the backdrop of the crucial parliamentary deliberation is the ethnic violence in Manipur.

The motion was introduced by the Congress to elicit a response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Parliment on the situation in Lok Sabha.

The Modi government is now in its second term, with opposition parties forming the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) to prevent the ruling BJP-led NDA from coming to power for a third term under him.
