NIA conducted raids on multiple associates of Dawood Ibrahim

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out raids on associates of Dawood Ibrahim in more than a dozen locations of Mumbai on Monday. The raids are in connection to a case registered by the investigating agency in February against Ibrahim for his alleged involvement in terror acts and organised crime in India.

Western suburbs including Bandra, Santacruz, Borivali, Goregaon and areas of South Mumbai starting from Parel to Grant Road, Bhendi Bazaar and Nagpada were raided. Drug traffickers, sharpshooters and real estate agents associated with Ibrahim's company were the main targets of the raid.

NIA in a statement said that several hawala operators and drug peddlers were associated with Ibrahim and the NIA had registered (a case) in this regard in February. The FIR invokes the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

This is the same case in which Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate based on the NIA’s case.
