NHRC Notifies Haryana Police on Journalist's Killing

New Delhi, May 27 (PTI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the police chief of Haryana following media reports about the tragic killing of a journalist near his home in Luhari village, Jhajjar district, earlier this month. The incident reportedly took place on May 18, raising significant human rights concerns, according to the Commission's statement.

The NHRC, acting on its own initiative, expressed that the reported details of the incident signify a grave violation of the journalist's human rights, assuming the reports are accurate. Based on the accounts, the journalist, associated with an online news platform, was taking an evening walk post-dinner when he was suddenly attacked by unknown individuals who shot him before escaping the scene.

The Commission has demanded a comprehensive report from Haryana's director general of police within two weeks to address the situation. Referring to a report from May 19, the NHRC mentioned that after the shooting, local villagers rushed the victim to a nearby healthcare facility, from where he was subsequently moved to a hospital in Gurugram, where he tragically passed away.
