Arunachal Leaders Hail Next-Gen GST as Historic Reform

Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein applauded the next-gen GST framework as a historic reform aligned with PM Modi's ease of living and business vision.

Arunachal Leaders Hail Next-Gen GST as Historic Reform

Itanagar, Sep 4 (PTI) Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders from Arunachal Pradesh, including Chief Minister Pema Khandu and his deputy Chowna Mein, have praised the Next-Generation Goods and Services Tax (GST) framework, describing it as a historic step aligned with "Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of ease of living and doing business".

Deputy Chief Minister Mein, who participated in the 56th meeting of the GST Council in New Delhi, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Wednesday, reported that the discussions were "fruitful and constructive" and poised to significantly boost India's economic growth. "Arunachal Pradesh has consistently been proactive in adopting new reforms and initiatives. We are committed to ensuring that the benefits of GST reach every section of society, and we remain dedicated to implementing any necessary changes concerning tax rates, exemptions, rules, and administrative procedures," Mein remarked in a post on X.

He emphasized that the GST reforms were a direct outcome of Modi's Independence Day speech, where he proposed a simplified and citizen-centric taxation system. "These new GST rate cuts and reforms will benefit farmers, MSMEs, the middle class, women, and youth, improving the lives of our people and ensuring ease of doing business, especially for small traders and enterprises," Mein added in another social media post.

The 56th GST Council meeting concluded with the finalisation of the roadmap for the 'Next-Gen GST,' aiming to establish a more transparent, efficient, and growth-oriented indirect taxation system. This significant reform milestone is anticipated to enhance India's economic momentum and strengthen livelihoods across various sectors. Khandu also praised the initiative, stating that what began as Modi's bold vision has now taken concrete shape.

"The GST Council's unanimous endorsement of the Union government's proposals for Next-Generation GST reforms marks a path-breaking initiative centred on citizens, bringing relief to farmers, MSMEs, traders, women, youth, and the middle class," he said.

The chief minister affirmed that the reforms represent "not merely a tax change, but a decisive stride towards strengthening livelihoods and boosting India's economic momentum," and lauded Modi and Sitharaman for orchestrating this "historic transformation."

Both Mein and Khandu emphasized that under the BJP's leadership, Arunachal Pradesh would continue to align with the prime minister's reform agenda, ensuring that the benefits of national economic policies reach even the remotest corners of the Northeast.
