Bengaluru, Aug 26 (PTI): Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot presented the esteemed “Namma Bengaluru Awards,” recognising individuals for their remarkable contributions to enhancing the city, during a ceremony on August 25. Among this year's honorees, Dr. S G Sushilamma received the Lifetime Achievement Award. H L Prabhakar, Registration Assistant Inspector General (Computers), was named Government Official of the Year. The Rising Star of the Year award went to Malavika R Nair. In the category of Social Entrepreneurs of the Year, Vikas Brahmavar and Gautam Desing were celebrated, while Dr. P Sriram and Dr. Alexander Thomas were honoured as Namma Bengalureans of the Year. Addressing the gathering, the Governor reminisced about the vision of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, Bengaluru's founder, noting that Bengaluru stands as a capital of innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology. It is a city where myriad dreams have been realized. He emphasized that the city's true strength lies in its unsung heroes, those who serve society selflessly—by conserving the environment, advancing education, aiding the needy, and fostering harmony. The concept of "My City, My Hero" resonates deeply. Further, he underscored that the Namma Bengaluru Awards epitomize the city’s collective aspiration to remain clean, green, safe, and inclusive. A city is crafted not only by its history, culture, and infrastructure but also by the spirit of its citizens—their service, dedication, and sacrifice, as noted in a statement released by the Governor's office. Acknowledging the city’s present challenges, the Governor remarked, “Bengaluru is facing the hurdles of rapid urbanisation, traffic congestion, water scarcity, waste management issues, and air pollution. Innovators and achievers play a crucial role in crafting sustainable solutions. It is only through united efforts that Bengaluru can maintain its identity as the ‘Garden City’.” Extending his felicitations to the awardees, he noted, “The Namma Bengaluru Awards exemplify that personal determination can instigate meaningful change. I warmly congratulate all the winners for making Bengaluru an inspiring city.
