Nagaland CM leads Mon as it pays last respects to civilians killed in Army firing

Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio led the people of Mon as they paid their last respects to the 14 civilians killed in army firing on Saturday and Sunday.

The coffins of the deceased, lined one after the other, were covered with a white cloth with traditional Naga shawls and flowers laid on top with people of Mon gathered around them during the funeral service.

The state govt, which BJP is also a part of, has decided to observe December 4 and 5 as black day to mourn the dead.

The venue of the Hornbill Festival, the state's marquee cultural event, also wore a deserted look on Monday as the government cancelled the day's events in solidarity with the killing of civilians in Mon district.

At least 14 civilians and one soldier were killed in firing by security forces in a botched anti-insurgency operation and the retaliatory violence.
