Mumbai Teacher Arrested for Assaulting Male Student: Police

Mumbai, July 1 (PTI) A 40-year-old female teacher from a well-known school in Mumbai has been apprehended for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old male student on multiple occasions. This information was disclosed by a police official on Wednesday.

The educator, who is married and teaches English, reportedly took the minor to luxury hotels where the alleged abuse took place. The teacher was taken into custody last week.

Her obsession with the student was so pronounced that she continued trying to connect with him even after he graduated from the school this year, according to the police. The problem began during school meetings for the annual function in December 2023, where she grew attracted to him. She allegedly initiated her first sexual advance in January 2024.

According to police, a friend of the teacher encouraged the boy, who was then in Class 10, to engage in the illicit relationship, suggesting that affairs between older women and teenage boys are becoming more common. The same friend has also been booked for his involvement.

The friend reportedly told the student that he and the teacher were "made for each other," as mentioned in the FIR. Following this, the teacher began taking the minor to costly hotels where the alleged abuse occurred, leading the student to suffer from severe anxiety.

She allegedly provided him with anti-anxiety medication and would often get him intoxicated before assaulting him. The boy's family noticed behavioral changes but chose not to act, thinking the matter would conclude once he finished school in a few months.

After completing his Class 10 exams and leaving the school, the boy fell into depression, according to authorities. The family decided to address the situation after the teacher sent another message through their domestic staff, requesting to meet the boy.

The teacher has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the Juvenile Justice Act.
