Significant Mephedrone Seizure in Mumbai: 12.6 kg Confiscated

Mumbai, May 27 (PTI) The Mumbai police have successfully confiscated 12.6 kg of mephedrone (MD) valued at Rs 24.47 crore and apprehended six individuals over the course of raids that occurred over a span of three months, an official revealed on Tuesday.

These operations took place in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Karjat in the adjacent Raigad district, according to an official announcement on Tuesday.

In March, the police made their initial arrest in Chembur, detaining one suspect with 45 grams of MD.

This led to a subsequent raid in Navi Mumbai on May 15, resulting in the seizure of over 6 kg of the drug, worth Rs 13.37 crore.

Further investigations spotlighted the involvement of a drug dealer named Sonu Pathan.

Police then carried out a raid on a farmhouse in Karjat, seizing an additional 5.5 kg of MD, with an estimated value exceeding Rs 11 crore, along with equipment used in drug production.

Six suspects have been arrested and are facing charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The special Anti-Narcotics squad, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone VI Navnath Dhavle, has registered 75 cases and seized contraband worth Rs 42.74 crore in the past five months.
