Mother of Bomb Blast Victim Claims Mamata Banerjee's Interference

Kolkata, July 7 (PTI) — The tragic case involving the death of Tamanna Khatun, a young girl killed in an explosion during what has been alleged as a violent celebration of the Kaliganj bypoll results, has taken a political turn. On Monday, her mother, Sabina, accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of hindering a thorough police investigation into the incident. She expressed her determination to launch a hunger strike until the perpetrators of her daughter's death are brought to justice. Sabina described witnessing the accused moving freely in the community, criticizing the lack of police action in making arrests. "I seek justice for my daughter's murder," Sabina stated emphatically. "I see those responsible for her death roaming uninhibited. It seems Mamata Banerjee is preventing the police from acting, leaving me no choice but to embark on a hunger strike until my daughter receives justice." Sabina's remarks came during interactions with reporters following a meeting with a delegation from the National Commission for Women (NCW) at her home in Kaliganj. This NCW team, led by Dr. Archana Majumdar, visited to extend their condolences and gather facts pertaining to the case. According to Sabina, while the FIR lists 24 individuals involved in the incident, only 10 have been apprehended. "This leaves 14 suspects wandering around the area," she noted. The incident in question took place on June 23, when 13-year-old Tamanna was caught in a tragic explosion in Malandi village, part of the Barochandgar area in Nadia district. The bombs were allegedly thrown during a rally celebrating a Trinamool Congress victory, conducted even prior to the official declaration of the Kaliganj assembly bypoll results. Police investigations suggest the tragic death occurred due to bomb splinters hitting the young girl during what escalated into a violent clash between rival factions. Dr. Majumdar of the NCW emphasized that "swift and neutral investigation is vital," dismissing concerns that compensation alone would suffice for the grieving family.
