Mobile phone explosion in Mumbai local train causes panic, no injuries reported

A mobile phone explosion inside the women's compartment of a local train in Maharashtra’s Thane district led to momentary chaos, though no injuries were reported, a civic official confirmed.

Incident Details

The explosion occurred at 8:12 pm on Monday inside a CSMT-Kalyan suburban train at Kalwa station. Yasin Tadvi, chief of Thane Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell, stated that the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) railway control room reported no injuries but confirmed a brief period of panic among passengers.

Eyewitnesses described hearing a small blast, followed by smoke inside the compartment, causing passengers to rush toward the door in an attempt to exit. Railway personnel quickly responded, using fire extinguishers to control the situation.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have yet to identify the owner of the mobile phone that exploded. According to railway police, preliminary investigations suggest a battery malfunction or a technical fault as the likely cause. Officials have urged passengers to exercise caution when using electronic devices in public transport.

No Disruption in Train Services

Despite the incident, train operations remained unaffected, ensuring no disruption to Mumbai's bustling suburban rail network.

The incident underscores the importance of safety measures when using electronic devices in public spaces, and authorities are continuing their probe into the matter.
