Mizoram Destroys Drugs Worth Over 34 Crore on Anti-Drug Day

Aizawl, June 26 (PTI): On the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Mizoram's Excise and Narcotics department and police jointly destroyed drugs valued at over Rs 34 crore. The operation took place on Thursday, according to officials. The drugs had been designated by the courts for destruction.

In an event held at Muallungthu, near Aizawl, the Excise and Narcotics department incinerated drugs worth Rs 20.24 crore. The event was graced by T Lalhlimpuia, a legislator from the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) representing the Lunglei West constituency. The drugs destroyed included 25.2 kg of heroin, 32.7 kg of methamphetamine tablets, 49 kg of crystal meth, 202.3 kg of ganja (cannabis), and 5,308.9 gm of nitrazepam, among other substances, as stated by the officials.

Simultaneously, the CID (Crime) and the Aizawl District Executive Force (DEF) of the Mizoram Police obliterated 8.2 kg of heroin, 87 kg of methamphetamine, and 23.2 kg of ganja, amounting to Rs 13.79 crore in value, at the Zoram Medical College and Hospital (ZMCH) using an incinerator technique. Deputy Inspector General of Police (Northern Range) Dingluaia, who attended the event at ZMCH, urged the Mizoram Police to intensify efforts in combating drug issues.

Across Mizoram, the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was commemorated with processions and seminars, aiming to raise awareness about the hazards of drug abuse and trafficking.
