20-Year Jail Term for Trio in 2013 Meghalaya Rape Case

Shillong: In a significant judicial decision, a court in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district has sentenced three individuals to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the rape of a 16-year-old girl that transpired in 2013, officials confirmed on Friday. Special Judge (POCSO) MK Lyngdoh delivered the sentence, imposing 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 on each of the convicted men on Thursday. Raj Roy, Ashit Chanda, and Prasenjit Das were found guilty of repeatedly assaulting the young victim in the case that dates back nearly a decade, officials stated. The father of the girl had lodged an FIR at Sadar Police Station in Shillong in 2013, alleging that his daughter was subjected to sexual assault, leading to the arrest of the three accused. In addition to the sentencing, the court mandated the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority in Shillong to compensate the girl's family with Rs 3 lakh.
