Pune crash: cops recover ₹3L given as bribe to doctors for manipulating blood sample, says report

The Crime Branch investigating the Pune Porsche case has recovered Rs 3 lakh cash that was given as a bribe to two senior doctors of Sasson General Hospital to replace the 17-year-old accused's blood sample, a report by News 18 outlet stated.

Earlier, the police claimed that the minor's father had given kickbacks to the doctors to swap his son's blood samples with another person's samples that showed no traces of alcohol.

The juvenile was sent to the state-run for a medical check-up after the deadly crash involving a Porsche car.

On May 27, the head of the Forensic Medicine Department and the chief medical officer of the hospital were arrested, apart from the peon of the hospital.

All three were accused of blood sample manipulation. They have been sent to police custody till May 30.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government has set up a three-member committee following the arrest of two doctors and an employee of Sassoon General Hospital.

Medical Education Commissioner Rajiv Nivatkar on Monday issued the order appointing the dean of Grant Medical College and J J group of hospitals Dr Pallavi Sapale as the chairperson of the committee.

The other members are Dr Gajanan Chavan, professor of the forensic medicine department of Grant Medical College, and Dr Sudhir Chowdhary, Special Duty Officer at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Government Medical College and Super Speciality Hospital.

The committee is asked to visit Pune on Tuesday.

The commissioner has also directed Dr Vinayak Kale, Dean of Sassoon General Hospital, to cooperate with the committee in the probe, as per the order.
