The innovation addresses key challenges in traditional lithium-ion batteries, including the high cost, limited availability, and environmental impact of cobalt, a crucial component in conventional designs.
Partha Saha, Associate Professor at NIT Rourkela&rsquo;s Ceramic Engineering Department, explained that cobalt-based cathodes are predominantly used in powering devices such as smartphones, laptops, and electric vehicles (EVs). However, cobalt presents multiple issues, including its scarcity, price volatility, and the environmental and ethical concerns tied to its mining.
&ldquo;With the growing demand for electric vehicles and lithium-ion batteries, cobalt supply is projected to fall short by 2050. This highlights the urgent need for alternative materials,&rdquo; said Saha.
Magnesium, an affordable and abundant element, is found in India&rsquo;s Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, and Karnataka regions. It is also more environmentally friendly compared to cobalt, making it an ideal replacement in cathode materials.
The research team has demonstrated that the magnesium-based cathode maintains 74.3% of its original capacity after 100 charge-discharge cycles, a significant improvement over traditional cobalt-based cathodes, which often suffer from rapid capacity loss. This new cathode also addresses cationic disorder in nickel sites, which is a common problem in traditional cathodes that results in capacity and voltage degradation.
Saha emphasized the wide-ranging implications of this development, particularly in producing affordable, high-performance batteries for EVs, contributing to India&rsquo;s renewable energy and sustainability goals. It also strengthens India's position in the global energy market by reducing reliance on imported materials for battery production.

Kota, known for its coaching institutes, has long been a site of concern due to student suicides. In 2024, the district witnessed a slight decline in student suicide rates, with 19 reported cases compared to 29 in 2023. The decrease has been attributed to improved monitoring of coaching centers and hostels under district administration's guidelines. Kota Collector Ravindra Goswami stated that the efforts are yielding positive results in reducing suicides by nearly 50%.

In light of multiple festivities and competitive examinations scheduled during the Mahakumbh Mela 2025, and to ensure there are no disturbances to public peace and order in Prayagraj district, a prohibitory order has been issued by the competent authority until February 28. The order, announced on Friday by the Additional Commissioner of Police, Prayagraj, comes under Section-163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023 (also known as Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023).
The ACP highlighted that several key religious festivals and events are set to take place, including the Mahakumbh 2025/Amrit Snan, Republic Day, Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchami, Sant Ravidas Jayanti, Maghi Purnima, Valentine's Day, Shab-e-Barat, Mahashivratri, among others, along with competitive examinations. With the district's communal sensitivity in mind, the ACP explained that information from reliable sources indicated that anti-social elements might attempt to cause disruptions, and thus there is an urgent need to maintain peace during these critical times.
To ensure the smooth and peaceful celebration of these festivals and the conduction of exams, the official announcement stressed that it is necessary to prevent any actions that could be instigated by anti-social elements. Due to the gravity of the situation, the prohibitory order has been issued without hearing or notifying any parties in advance. This order will be effective across the Prayagraj Commissionerate from January 16 to February 28, 2025.
The order includes the following key provisions:

<li>No individual or group is allowed to organize any events, processions, fasts, demonstrations, or block roads without permission from the competent authority. Publicity for such events is also prohibited.</li>
<li>Protests are only permitted at the designated protest site near Patthar Church at Civil Lines Police Station.</li>
<li>Drone usage is prohibited during religious events within the Prayagraj Commissionerate area, except for those used for police and administrative purposes.</li>
<li>The carrying of lathis, sticks, axes, or any lethal weapons is banned, except for authorized personnel. Individuals are also prohibited from entering any government or non-government offices with weapons or licensed firearms.</li>
<li>Provocative speeches or publications that could hurt religious sentiments are prohibited.</li>
<li>Spreading rumors or posting misleading, sensitive content on social media that may cause unrest is forbidden.</li>
<li>The sale, play, or display of audio/video material that may create tension among the public is banned.</li>
<li>Damaging private or government property will not be tolerated.</li>
<li>There shall be no forcible closure of industrial/commercial establishments, and disruptions to the normal functioning of government offices, factories, and essential services will not be allowed.</li>
<li>Buses and vehicles of U.P.R.S.P.N. cannot be stopped or damaged.</li>
<li>Obstructing public roads or traffic flow is prohibited, and individuals are not allowed to incite others to do so.</li>

The Maha Kumbh, which started on January 13, will continue until February 26, with significant bathing dates including January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), February 3 (Basant Panchami), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri). The prohibitory order aims to maintain order and ensure peaceful participation during these important events.

Dr. Dange advised that rest is crucial due to wounds on Saif's back, which pose a risk of infection. "He is doing excellent. We made him walk. There was no problem or pain or any other symptoms.
Based on several parameters, including his injuries and wounds, he is deemed safe to be shifted out of the ICU. The only thing we have advised him is to take rest for some time, particularly because of the wounds on his back that could lead to infection," Dr. Dange stated.
He further elaborated that the injury to the actor's spine has been addressed, thereby necessitating restrictions on Saif's movements and visiting activities to aid in his recovery.
"He sustained wounds on his hand, and one on the neck, which underwent plastic surgery repair. I also operated on his spine where a sharp object was lodged and from where fluid was seeping. The repairs have been successful," Dange informed reporters.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police have retrieved a portion of the blade removed from Saif's back and continue efforts to secure the remaining part. Police have detained an individual suspected to be connected to the assault on Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence and are currently questioning him at Bandra police station. Singh further stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the northeastern region is poised to become the "Growth Engine of New India." The state government has launched various initiatives to support local entrepreneurs, such as the "One Family One Livelihood" mission. This program provides loans of up to Rs 10 lakh, with 30% of the loan amount offered as a grant, and has supported 2,575 entrepreneurs under the Manipur State Credit Guarantee Scheme.

The attack occurred early on Thursday morning at around 2:30 am when an intruder confronted the actor's maid at his 11th-floor flat. Saif attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation, but things turned violent, leading to him being stabbed multiple times. The actor was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove a 2.5-inch-long knife lodged in his spine, causing a serious injury to his thoracic spinal cord. Doctors confirmed that Saif is out of danger but will remain under close observation in the ICU for continued recovery.
In the FIR registered by Mumbai Police, the maid claimed that the intruder demanded one crore rupees from the family. During the altercation, he allegedly attacked the maid with a hexa blade, injuring her hands. "We received two different bomb threat calls from Lady Shree Ram College (sic) at 11.40 am. Another bomb threat call was received from Tagore International School in East of Kailash area at 11.17 am," an official told PTI.
He said teams were immediately rushed to the site, but nothing suspicious was found.
A dog squad and bomb disposal squad were part of the teams rushed to the spot, a police officer said.

"The BJP has repeatedly said that Kejriwal gives away free handouts, but today the BJP's national president announced that they too will provide free handouts to the people of Delhi," Kejriwal said, challenging the opposition party&rsquo;s stance.&nbsp;
He further added, "I want to tell them that they should acknowledge that Prime Minister Modi was wrong when he said the things that he did about us. They should also accept free handouts are not wrong -- they are a gift from God and good for the country."
Kejriwal stressed that PM Modi should now publicly endorse the BJP's promises and admit that providing free handouts was a good policy. "Modi ji should come forward and assure he consents to these (BJP) promises. He should tell I was right in providing free handouts," he said.

He also claimed that the BJP's manifesto proposed the closure of mohalla clinics, a key initiative of the AAP government in Delhi. Kejriwal vowed that AAP would go across the city to ask the people if they wanted these clinics to continue.

Sambhal Municipal Council Executive Officer, Manibhushan Tiwari, stated that under the Uttar Pradesh Municipalities Act of 1916, the survey revealed that these 123 buildings could collapse at any moment. The municipality has now ordered the owners to demolish them or face forced demolition by authorities.
In a separate development, a demolition drive was carried out in Pathakpur village under Chandausi Tehsil, where some houses built on illegally encroached government land were removed. Tehsildar Dhirendra Kumar Singh confirmed that notices were served to the encroachers, but after their non-compliance, the houses were demolished.
The local administration's crackdown on illegal encroachments follows the violence in Sambhal, with the district authorities continuing efforts to remove illegal constructions from government lands.
In another initiative, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) conducted a survey in Sambhal to restore historical wells and pilgrimage sites. The BJP's manifesto, 'Sankalp Patra,' proposes financial support for pregnant women, including Rs 21,000 and six nutritional kits. In addition, the party promises Rs 5,000 for the first child and Rs 6,000 for the second child.

He also highlighted that the AAP had promised to give Rs 1,000 to women in 2021, a promise that has not been fulfilled in either Delhi or Punjab.
In an attempt to further criticize AAP's broken promises, Nadda said, "Let me shed some light on AAPda's track record. They promised to give Rs 1,000 per month in 2021. They neither gave it here in Delhi nor in Punjab. In 2024, they promised to give Rs 1,000 per month. As expected, they did not provide it here in Delhi or Punjab. They failed to give subsidy on LPG."
The manifesto also includes a Rs 500 subsidy on LPG cylinders, with the BJP pledging to provide two free cylinders on Diwali and Holi.

Nadda also assured that, should the BJP win, it would implement the Ayushman Bharat health scheme in Delhi during its first cabinet meeting. This follows the AAP government's opposition to the central scheme, claiming that Delhi already has "superior" health services.
The manifesto also includes a health coverage plan for senior citizens, with an additional Rs 5 lakh in health benefits, raising the total coverage to Rs 10 lakh.
The BJP also promises a new pension scheme for senior citizens, offering Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500 per month for those aged 60-70, and Rs 3,000 for those over 70. Additionally, the Divyang and widows will receive a pension of Rs 3,000.
In slum areas, the BJP intends to set up Atal Canteens where residents can access a meal for just Rs 5.
