Prolonged Anti-Terror Operation in Kulgam Enters Seventh Day

Srinagar, Aug 7: The ongoing anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district reached its seventh consecutive day on Thursday, marking it as the lengthiest operation this year. Security forces continue to engage with militants concealed within the dense forested area, according to official sources.

Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, the Army's Northern Commander, assessed the security scenario and the anti-terror strategy in South Kashmir. He received updates on the current operation as well.

"The operation has entered its seventh day and is ongoing," stated the officials.

They reported that sporadic exchanges of gunfire were witnessed on Thursday morning.

Security forces have deployed all available resources, including drones and helicopters, in their efforts to locate the terrorists within the challenging forest terrain.

As of now, two terrorists have been neutralized, and at least two security personnel have sustained injuries in the encounter that commenced last Friday. This followed a cordon and search operation initiated in a forested area of Akhal in the south Kashmir district, based on precise intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists.

After the initial exchange of gunfire on Friday evening, the operation was paused overnight. However, the cordon was fortified, and additional reinforcements were deployed to the area, as per official reports.

The exchange of fire resumed on the previous Saturday, resulting in the elimination of two terrorists, officials confirmed.

The identities and affiliations of the deceased militants remain unverified at this time.

This operation stands as the most prolonged anti-terror initiative in the Kashmir valley this year.

Lt Gen Sharma praised the troops for their determination and perseverance, which underscore the Indian Army's unwavering dedication to ensuring peace and security in the region.
