Zomato delivery boy allegedly thrashed, customer says 'will not accept order from an untouchable'

A delivery boy was allegedly thrashed by a group of men in Uttar Pradesh's captial Lucknow after a customer refused to take food from his hands owing to the caste he belongs to.

The Zomato delivery boy Vineet Kumar went to deliver an order to the customer's house who then asked his name. Reports said on hearing Vineet's name, the accused customer refused to take the order from the hands, saying Vineet was an 'untouchable', a derogatory term used for people belonging to Dalit castes.

In reponse, Vineet told the customer to cancel the order if he didn't want to accept the order. But reports said instead of returning the food, a group of 10-12 people who were in the house came out and started beating Vineet. The attackers also took Vineet's motorbike.

Police filed an FIR and will verify the CCTV footages of the area where the customer's house is located.
