Watch: students from Bengal's Canning block railway tracks

Hundreds of students from a school in West Bengal's Canning blocked railway tracks on Tuesday to protest against the transfer of 5 teachers from their school.

The students of Gaurdah Narayanpur Akshaya Vidyamandir said their teachers were suddenly transferred and now they are left will only 3 teachers who can take classes at the higher secondary level.

The students also said that there would not have been a problem if the administration had chosen to transfer a teacher each from other schools in the district as well but transferring 5 teachers from their school will hamper their studies.

The protest comes on a day when Bengal's education minister Bratya Basu announced that government will take stock of state-run schools that have closed down and arrive at a mechanism to revive them.

Certain guidelines will be framed based on the teacher-student ratio of those schools before their closure and the population density of the areas where they are located, the minister said.
