In continuation of a nearly 100-year-old tradition, liquor was offered by devotees at a shrine in Punjab during an annual festival. Alcohol was offered as 'prasad' at the Baba Rode Shah shrine in Punjab's Amritsar.

The two-day annual fair reportedly started in Bhoma village on March 24. Devotees were seen thronging the shrine to first hand over their liquor bottles as an offering, and then distribute the alcohol to other devotees.

Liquor is offered at the shrine throughout the year, but the practice sees a spike during the annual festival, as per reports. Baba Rode Shah reportedly settled in Bhoma in 1896.

Local folklore says that his blessings once helped a childless farmer have a son. When the farmer offered him money, Baba Rode Shah is claimed to have refused and instead, asked for liquor to be distributed among devotees.

Shah is said to not have consumed alcohol himself. He reportedly died in 1924, and an annual fair has been organised in his memory ever since.
