Watch! Amid water level surge, Yamuna water enters Red fort

Water from the overflowing Yamuna River has reached Red Fort, one of the historical sites located in the old Delhi area. Drone footage shared by news agency ANI shows roads inundated with people walking in knee-deep water.

This comes a day after water from key roads in the national capital submerged key roads in the national capital.

Parts of Delhi witnessing flooding due to a surge in Yamuna water level after incessant rainfall lashed north India last on July 8 and 9. Following this Haryana discharged a massive amount of water into the river from the Hathnikund barrage.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government has announced closure of all schools, colleges in areas inundated with floodwater till July 16.

The river exceeded the evacuation mark of 206 metres Monday night, prompting the relocation of people residing in flood-prone areas to safer locations, and the closure of the Old Railway Bridge for road and rail traffic.

The water level further breached the previous all-time record of 207.49 metres by 1 pm on Wednesday and the 208-metre mark by 10 pm.
