The motorcycle used for escape by the killers of an Udaipur tailor had "2611" as its registration number, a possible reference to the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008, the police have said. 
Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad had fled after brutally hacking tailor Kanhaiya Lal to death in Udaipur on June 28.
Akhtari had paid Rs 1000 to obtain the number of his choice for the motorcycle which he had bought in March 2013, officials said.
The accused were caught in the Bhim area by the Rajsamand police hours after the incident.
"The registration number of the bike on which they were fleeing was RJ 27 AS 2611. The motorcycle was handed over to the SIT for further action," SHO of Bhim police station said.
Udaipur RTO Prabhu Lal Bamniya said the motorcycle was issued in the name of Riaz Akhtari and a fee of Rs 1,000 was paid for securing the number in March 2013.
On November 26, 2008, 10 Pakistani terrorists arrived at Mumbai by sea route and opened fire indiscriminately at people, killing 166, including 18 security personnel.
Ajmal Kasab was the only terrorist who was captured alive. He was hanged four years later on November 21, 2012.

First the Lockheed Martin F-21. It's possible that America may make an attractive offer as it tries to make India less dependent on Russian weapons. However, the F-21 is just an upgraded version of the F-16 as per some experts. A factor working in the F-21's favour is the fact that the company has already signed a deal with Tata to manufacture the plane's wings in India. However, the jet might not impress the Indian Air Force as one of its MiG-21s shot down a Pakistani F-16 in 2019.
Next is the Sukhoi Su-35. Russia might offer discounts to India as it struggles with Western sanctions over the Ukraine war. However, the Su-35 is an air superiority fighter, and not a multirole aircraft as India wants. Multirole jets are less powerful but can also do ground attacks. However, technology transfer as part of the deal might help upgrade India's existing Su-30 fleet.

However, many of its features are similar to the made-in-India LCA Tejas jet. This might hurt the Swedish plane's case.
This deal is very important for the Indian Air Force to maintain its strength amid threats from Pakistan and China. The IAF currently has 30 squadrons, which will go down further as older aircraft are phased out of service. The sanctioned squadron strength is 42. Each squadron has around 16-18 aircraft.
The ongoing process is to buy 114 fighter jets for the Indian Air Force. Eighteen of the planes will be imported, while 96 will be made in India. For domestic manufacturing, Indian companies will partner up with foreign firms. For the first time ever, payment of around 70% of the cost will be done in Indian currency, as per reports.
As India faces increasing challenges at its borders, the country will have to get rid of its dependence on foreign weapons. To do this, India will have to take advantage of deals like the current one to make sure it gets access to technology and knowledge to be able to make its own advanced fighter jets in the future.

In a statement after the Supreme Court's observations against Sharma, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said the court has strengthened the party's resolve to fight "destructively divisive ideologies".
"The court has very rightly called out the BJP spokesperson for being 'single-handedly responsible for igniting emotions across the country', and that she should apologise to the entire nation," Ramesh said.
"These remarks by the Supreme Court, which resonate with the entire country, should make the party in power hang its head in shame," he also said.
The Supreme Court slammed Sharma for her "disturbing" remark against Prophet Mohammad and said it led to unfortunate incidents and ignited emotions across the country.
Sharma's remark against the Prophet, made during the course of a TV debate, triggered protests across the country and invited sharp reactions from many Gulf countries. The BJP had subsequently suspended her from the party.
Ramesh said the Supreme Court has held a mirror to this government and called out the "base ugliness" of its actions.
"It is no secret that the BJP seeks to profit from inflaming communal passions. Today, the Supreme Court has strengthened the resolve in every single one of us who are fighting these destructively divisive ideologies," the Congress leader.
Ramesh said the Indian National Congress will never cease its fight against "polarising anti-national forces" of all types which plunge the nation into chaos for political gains and let all Indian citizens bear the consequences of their "perverse actions".

Dhankhar has appointed Mahua Mukherjee, professor in the department of dance of RBU as its next vice-chancellor.
He tweeted on Thursday that he has appointed Mukherjee as the next VC in terms of section 9(1)(b) of the Rabindra Bharati Act, 1981.
The governor also attached a recommendation of the government search committee for the post and said that he was choosing Mukherjee, whose name topped the list. Reacting strongly, TMC state spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, "The governor has once again proved he does not believe in democratic principles and federalism." "While his consent is awaited for the bill passed by West Bengal Assembly appointing the chief minister as chancellor of the state universities, the hon'ble governor hastily announced a name as the VC of RBU. He did not bother to take into confidence the education minister and chief minister before the announcement. He is exceeding his brief," Ghosh said.

Shinde was on Thursday sworn in as the 20th chief minister of Maharashtra, while Fadnavis took oath as the deputy chief minister, just 24 hours after the collapse of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by Thackeray.
During the cabinet meeting, Fadnavis also directed the state administration to revive the Jalyukt Shivar Scheme, which was discontinued by the Thackeray government on charges of corruption. This water conservation scheme was Fadnavis government's flagship programme.
Fadnavis asked the advocate general to represent the government's side of building the car shed in Aarey Colony.
Officials in the urban development department said the matter is currently in the court and the next hearing will be held 15 days later.
The advocate general was asked how can the project be shifted to Aarey Colony as the previous MVA government had proposed to shift the car shed to Kanjurmarg and designated Aarey Colony as a reserve forest, they said.
Fadnavis told the officials that the 33-km-long Colaba-Bandra-Seepz underground Metro project is getting delayed due to the court case.
Meanwhile, the NCP objected to the new government's proposal to shift the Metro car shed to Aarey Colony.
In a tweet, NCP spokesperson Clyde Crasto said, "With so many important issues that need to be looked into in Maharashtra, what does the new Dy. CM Devendra Fadnavis do? He proposes to move Metro car shed back to Aarey. Re-creating a problem solved by MVA Govt. Green lung of Mumbai in danger once again. What will he gain?"

Two persons were arrested from on Thursday night for conspiring the brutal beheading of a tailor, a senior police official said.
Tailor Kanhaiya Lal was killed Tuesday afternoon by two cleaver-wielding men, Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad, who posted a grisly video of the crime online claiming responsibility for the “beheading”. Both the accused were arrested in Rajsamand hours after the crime.
“Two persons have been arrested. They were co-conspirator of the murder of Kanhaiya and they are being interrogated,” the official said on Friday.
The arrested accused were identified as Mohsin and Asif.
The case is being investigated by National Investigation Agency (NIA) with support of the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Rajasthan Police.

A highway in Gujarat turned into a furnace as an accident between 3 trucks led to a massive fire. Huge flames and clouds of black smoke were seen rising from the burning trucks.
The accident occurred at the Modasa-Dhansura road in Aravalli district. At least 2 people died, while 2 others were severely injured. Police and fire fighters were seen at the spot.
Narendra Kumar Meena, the Collector of Aravalli was quoted as saying by ANI news agency that the injured persons had been hospitalised, while the bodies of the victims had been extracted.

 A section of Shiv Sena parliamentarians on Friday asked party chief Uddhav Thackeray to mend fences with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde amid claims by BJP leaders that at least a dozen Lok Sabha members of the rebellion-hit party were in touch with them.
A central BJP minister claimed that the split in the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra will also have an impact in the Lok Sabha as at least a dozen Lok Sabha members of the party, out of the total 19, were ready to switch sides.
A meeting of Shiv Sena MPs, convened by Thackeray in Mumbai on Friday evening, saw suggestions being made even by a party veteran to patch up with the rebel group led by Shinde in the long-term interests of the party, Sena sources said.
Thackeray's response to the suggestions was not immediately known.
The meeting was not attended by three lawmakers - Shrikant Shinde, the son of the new chief minister; Bhawana Gawli, who is under the scanner of Enforcement Directorate; and Rajan Vichare, the Lok Sabha member from Thane, the sources said.
Shiv Sena has 19 members in the Lok Sabha and three members in the Rajya Sabha.
Shinde's son Shrikant, a two-term Lok Sabha member from Kalyan, has already joined ranks with his father, while five-term parliamentarian from Yavatmal Bhawana Gawli had written a letter to the then chief minister Uddhav Thackeray urging him to consider the grievances of the rebels with regard to Hindutva.  Rajan Vichare, the Lok Sabha member from Thane, was mentored by the late Anand Dighe like Shinde.
Gawli has been under the radar of the Enforcement Directorate over allegations of money laundering connected with a non-governmental organisation run by her.
Thirty-five-year-old Shrikant, who was with the rebel MLAs in Goa, was not available for comments.  A section of the Lok Sabha members was in a quandary as several MLAs in their constituencies had sided with Shinde and were apprehensive of financial support for development projects under the new dispensation.
"There has been no impact of the rebellion on the Shiv Sena parliamentary party," Vinayak Raut, leader of the Shiv Sena in the Lok Sabha, told PTI before the meeting with Thackeray.
Lok Sabha member from Osmanabad Omraje Nimbalkar too said he was firmly with Thackeray and would cast his vote in the July 18 presidential elections according to the directions of the Shiv Sena chief.
"The split is in the Shiv Sena legislature party, why do you want to drag the Parliamentary unit into this," a Sena Lok Sabha member from Vidarbha region asked.
The Rajya Sabha members are Anil Desai, Sanjay Raut and Priyanka Chaturvedi, all considered close to the Thackerays.

The letter is dated June 30, the day Shinde took oath as chief minister with BJP's Devendra Fadnavis as his deputy.
Thackeray, who headed a coalition government of Sena, NCP and Congress, stepped down as Chief Minister on June 29 after the Supreme Court refused to stay the floor test ordered by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. With 39 out of 55 Sena MLAs being part of Shinde's camp, it was apparent that the government had lost its majority.
The Sena had earlier sought disqualification of 16 rebel MLAs, and also removed Shinde as the party's leader in the Assembly. The Shinde camp, on the other hand, claimed that as they had majority, their group was the real Shiv Sena in the legislature.
The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear on July 11 the plea of Shiv Sena chief whip Sunil Prabhu seeking suspension from assembly of Shinde and 15 rebel MLAs against whom disqualification pleas are pending.
After Shinde was sworn in as the chief minister, Prabhu moved the top court seeking his suspension and of 15 rebels on various grounds, alleging that they are “acting as pawns of the BJP, thereby committing the constitutional sin of defection.”

Rs 8 lakhs spent every day - the recent rebellion in Shiv Sena once again highlighted how political parties splurge money in their power games.
But where does this money come from? What's the income, and what are its sources? Let's take a look at the finances of political parties.
In financial year 2021-21, the Bharatiya Janata Party's income was over Rs 752 crore. The party spent Rs 620 crore. The Shiv Sena, currently going through a tug-of-war, got Rs 13 crore, and spent more than half - Rs 7 crore.

Meanwhile, the Congress got Rs 285 crore in 2021-21, and spent Rs 209 crore. The Trinamool Congress made Rs 74 crore, but its expenditure was almost double at Rs 132 crore in 2020-21. The Nationalist Congress Party's income was Rs 34 crore, and it spent Rs 12 crore.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, leading the ruling coalition in Tamil Nadu, got Rs 149 crore, and spent Rs 218 crore in 2020-21. The Aam Aadmi Party, ruling Delhi and Punjab, had an income of Rs 17 crore, and expenditure of Rs 15 crore, in 2020-21.
The sources of income of political parties are varied. Here's a look at the major sources, as per an ADR report.
In 2020-21, the BJP got Rs 577 crore in voluntary contributions, Rs 168 crore as interest from banks, Rs 5 crore in fees and subscriptions, and half a crore Rupees from other sources.
The Shiv Sena got Rs 12 crore as interest on FD, Rs 0.8 crore as fees and subscriptions, Rs 0.7 crore from grants and donations, and Rs 10 lakhs from other sources.
The Congress got Rs 156 crore by issuing coupons, Rs 95 crore as grants and donations, Rs 20 crore as fees and subscriptions, and Rs 12 crore from other sources. The Trinamool Congress got Rs 42 crore from donations and contributions, Rs 18 crore as fees and subscriptions, Rs 3 crore from other sources, and Rs 10 crore was sundry balance written off.
The NCP got Rs 26 crore from grants and donations, Rs 8 crore from coupon and publication sale, Rs 0.3 crore as interest on FDs, and Rs 7 lakh from other sources.
The DMK got Rs 113 crore from grants and donations, Rs 23 crore as fees and subscriptions, Rs 12 crore as interest on bank deposits, and Rs 40 lakhs from other sources. The Aam Aadmi Party got Rs 16 crore from donations, Rs 0.8 crore as interest income, and Rs 0.1 crore as fees and subscriptions.
Political funding is a controversial issue in India. Activists have long pressed for reform in the area, seeking greater transparency.
In recent years, electoral bonds have become a major bone of contention. Critics have claimed that electoral bonds allow donors to remain anonymous, making the use of black money and money laundering easier. In response, the Narendra Modi government has claimed that electoral bonds actually enhance transparency, as identity of the donor is available in bank records.
With hundreds of crores of rupees going to political parties every year, greater scrutiny of the source of this big money will only strengthen Indian democracy.

But where does this money come from? What's the income, and what are its sources? Let's take a look at the finances of political parties.
In financial year 2021-21, the Bharatiya Janata Party's income was over Rs 752 crore. The party spent Rs 620 crore. The Shiv Sena, currently going through a tug-of-war, got Rs 13 crore, and spent more than half - Rs 7 crore.

Meanwhile, the Congress got Rs 285 crore in 2021-21, and spent Rs 209 crore. The Trinamool Congress made Rs 74 crore, but its expenditure was almost double at Rs 132 crore in 2020-21. The Nationalist Congress Party's income was Rs 34 crore, and it spent Rs 12 crore.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, leading the ruling coalition in Tamil Nadu, got Rs 149 crore, and spent Rs 218 crore in 2020-21. The Aam Aadmi Party, ruling Delhi and Punjab, had an income of Rs 17 crore, and expenditure of Rs 15 crore, in 2020-21.
The sources of income of political parties are varied. Here's a look at the major sources, as per an ADR report.
In 2020-21, the BJP got Rs 577 crore in voluntary contributions, Rs 168 crore as interest from banks, Rs 5 crore in fees and subscriptions, and half a crore Rupees from other sources.
The Shiv Sena got Rs 12 crore as interest on FD, Rs 0.8 crore as fees and subscriptions, Rs 0.7 crore from grants and donations, and Rs 10 lakhs from other sources.
The Congress got Rs 156 crore by issuing coupons, Rs 95 crore as grants and donations, Rs 20 crore as fees and subscriptions, and Rs 12 crore from other sources. The Trinamool Congress got Rs 42 crore from donations and contributions, Rs 18 crore as fees and subscriptions, Rs 3 crore from other sources, and Rs 10 crore was sundry balance written off.
The NCP got Rs 26 crore from grants and donations, Rs 8 crore from coupon and publication sale, Rs 0.3 crore as interest on FDs, and Rs 7 lakh from other sources.
The DMK got Rs 113 crore from grants and donations, Rs 23 crore as fees and subscriptions, Rs 12 crore as interest on bank deposits, and Rs 40 lakhs from other sources. The Aam Aadmi Party got Rs 16 crore from donations, Rs 0.8 crore as interest income, and Rs 0.1 crore as fees and subscriptions.
Political funding is a controversial issue in India. Activists have long pressed for reform in the area, seeking greater transparency.
In recent years, electoral bonds have become a major bone of contention. Critics have claimed that electoral bonds allow donors to remain anonymous, making the use of black money and money laundering easier. In response, the Narendra Modi government has claimed that electoral bonds actually enhance transparency, as identity of the donor is available in bank records.
With hundreds of crores of rupees going to political parties every year, greater scrutiny of the source of this big money will only strengthen Indian democracy.
