The authorities, however, have denied the charge, saying he was only prevented from observing a five-day fast at the top of Khardung La.
On Sunday, Wangchuk had said the administration wants to "silence him" for the protest against the destruction of the region's ecology and unsustainable development.
The education reformist, who inspired a pivotal character in the Bollywood blockbuster &ldquo;3 Idiots&rdquo;, had announced the hunger strike at the 18,380 feet high Khardung La from January 26 to invite the BJP-led Centre&rsquo;s attention to the demands of the people of Ladakh. These include an extension of the sixth schedule of the Constitution and environmental protection from unchecked industrial and commercial expansion.

The Congress on Monday said the government's strategy to deal with Chinese aggression can be summed up as 'DDLJ- Deny, Distract, Lie, Justify'. Slamming External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar's recent remarks alleging that some people are deliberately spreading fake news about the border issue with China, party spokesperson and senior leader Jairam Ramesh said that the minister's statement was nothing more than an attempt to divert attention from the Centre's 'failed China policy' and the loss of 26 of 65 patrolling stations in Ladakh were evidence of the said policy.&nbsp;
Reflecting on Jaishankar's remark that the 'land was occupied in 1962,' Ramesh added, 'The fact that there is no comparison between 1962, when India went to war with China to defend its territory, and 2020 after which India has acquiesced to Chinese aggression with denials followed by 'disengagements' in which India has lost access to thousands of square kilometres of territory.'&nbsp;
Rahul Gandhi had recently cited a report by a police official which said that India had lost nearly 2,000 square km of territory to the Chinese.

Taking a shot at this statement of Gandhi, Jaishankar had slammed the leader saying, 'The land that opposition leaders said had been occupied by China was in fact occupied in 1962,'
'Sometimes they spread news that they know is false. They project as if it happened just now, when it, in fact, happened in 1962...They won't talk about that,' Jaishankar had said.&nbsp; Ramesh, in his statement, retorted, 'It is extraordinary that (Foreign Minister) Jaishankar has admitted on several occasions that he has no idea why China has turned aggressive on the Line of Actual Control, notwithstanding the unusually frequent contacts between PM Modi and President Xi Jinping and the PM's boast that he enjoys a special 'Plus One' relationship with President Xi.'&nbsp; He said the government 'Should have been truthful from the start and taken the opposition into confidence by discussing the China crisis in parliamentary standing committees, debating it in parliament, or at least speaking with leaders of major political parties.'&nbsp;

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday hoisted the national flag at the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' campsite in Srinagar and followed it with a fun snowball fight with his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Donning a white T-shirt and a sleeveless jacket, the former Congress chief hoisted the flag at the campsite in Panthachowk to the tunes of the national anthem played to mark the culmination of the yatra, amid a fresh snowfall in the city.
In a brief address to the 'Bharat Yatris', Gandhi thanked them for their love, affection and support through the 136-day foot march, which began in Kanyakumari on September 7 last year.
The Gandhi siblings later joined Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and scores of other party leaders at the Pradesh Congress Committee office on the Maulana Azad Road where another flag hoisting ceremony was held. The national anthem was playing after this.

The local administration had made stringent security arrangements for the programme as Lal Chowk was off limits for vehicular traffic for the second consecutive day.
Thousands of office goers had to foot the distance of around a kilometre or more to reach their workplaces in Lal Chowk and the adjoining areas.
Gandhi had on Sunday unfurled the national flag at the iconic clock tower in Lal Chowk to mark the end of the foot march of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

A purported video shared by the Twitter handle, Citizens Movement, East Bengaluru captures an incident between 2 bikers and a couple in a car. The video, reportedly shot by the dash camera of the car, has captured the moment when a bike collides with the couple's car at a turning.&nbsp; Soon after the collision, the two men get off the bike and demand the driver of the car to get out of the vehicle. The couple, however, denies and begin to drive their car in reverse gear.&nbsp;
The woman, who sat in the passenger seat, is heard saying, 'We have a camera,' as the man backs the car up.&nbsp; In the 2-minute long video, the men are seen following the car and gesturing at the couple to get out of the vehicle. When the vehicle comes to a stop, one of two men walks to the passenger side and starts banging on the window. Though, he is not seen, the bangs on the window are loud enough to be recorded on the video.&nbsp;

On Sunday evening, S Girish, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Whitefield Division, in response to a tweet shared a photo of the two bikers, 'FIR booked &amp; arrested the two men on the bike involved in this incident. Appreciate the swift response by Bellandur Police," he wrote.&nbsp;

A government release said on Sunday evening there will be no official entertainment for three days from January 29-31 throughout the state.
"It has been decided by the Government of Odisha that as a mark of respect, state honour would be accorded to the departed dignitary. The national flag will be flown at half-mast on the day of death in the state capital and on the day of funeral at the place where it takes place," the release said.
The minister, 60, was shot at Brajrajnagar town around 1 pm on Sunday allegedly by Assistant Sub-inspector of Police (ASI) Gopal Das, who is believed to be suffering from a mental disorder.
A team of doctors at Apollo Hospital operated on him after he was airlifted from Jharsugada to Bhubaneshwar, but he eventually succumbed to injuries.&nbsp;

Demolition drive to bring down structures marked as unsafe in 'sinking' town Joshimath resumed on Thursday, a day after the drive was halted due to protests.
Joshimath's multi-storey hotel Malari Inn, is the first structure that is going to be razed after it was marked unsafe as it developed deeper cracks owing to land subsidence in the town and inclined backwards.&nbsp;
Authorities have cordened off the sorrounding area amid heavy security arrangements. Meanwhile, CM Dhami announced a 45 crore rehablitation package for 3000 families.&nbsp;

A court in Gujarat's Gandhinagar on Monday convicted self-styled godman Asaram in a woman disciple rape case registered against him in 2013.
Sessions court judge DK Soni reserved its order on the quantum of sentence for Tuesday (January 31).
The court acquitted six other accused, including Asaram's wife, due to the lack of evidence.
As per the FIR lodged at Chandkheda police station in Ahmedabad, Asaram allegedly raped the woman on several occasions from 2001 to 2006 when she was living at his ashram on the outskirts of the city.
"The court has accepted the prosecution case and convicted Asaram under sections 376 2(C) (rape), 377 (unnatural offences) and other provisions of the Indian Penal Code for illegal detention, among others," special public prosecutor RC Kodekar said on Monday.
The controversial godman is currently lodged in jail in Jodhpur in another rape case.
A Surat-based woman had filed a case of rape and illegal confinement against Asaram Bapu and seven others, one of whom died during the pendency of the trial, in October 2013. A chargesheet was filed in July 2014.&nbsp;

As per the reports in Hindustan Times, actors Kartik Aaryan, and Aamir Khan along with his former wife Kiran Rao, and Politicians Sachin Pilot and Shivraj Singh Chouhan attended the private wedding in Bhopal.

An anti-terror court in Lucknow on Monday pronounced the death sentence to Ahmad Murtaza Abbasi, convicted for attacking security staff at Gorakhpur's Gorakhnath temple with a sharp-edged weapon last year, according to media reports.&nbsp;
Abbasi was convicted by the ATS court in Lucknow on Saturday.
According to an FIR lodged at the Gorakhnath police station on April 4, 2022, on the basis of a complaint from Vinay Kumar Mishra, Abbasi, an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) graduate, tried to forcibly enter the Gorakhnath temple premises on April 3 and attacked the security personnel deployed there with a sickle, injuring two Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) constables.

Twenty-nine people, including 25 schoolchildren, were injured in an accident at central Delhi's Salimgarh flyover on Monday, police said.
The police received information regarding the accident around 11 am. When they reached the spot, they found a pileup of three buses, an autorickshaw, a car and a motorcycle, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shweta Chauhan said.
There were 216 students in the four buses. Around 25 students, three members of school staff and one other person were injured in the accident, Chauhan said.
The injured are undergoing treatment at LNJP Hospital. Legal action is being taken accordingly, the police said.
