Urdu, Hindi taught at same time, in same room, on same board: watch Bihar school video

One blackboard, two teachers, two languages, and a lot of confusion - these are scenes regularly witnessed at Adarsh Middle School in Bihar's Katihar.

While one teacher teaches Hindi using one half of the blackboard, another teacher simultaneously teaches Urdu. The classroom houses students of classes 1 to 5.

One of the teachers claimed that there are not enough classrooms in the school. To make matters worse, an Urdu primary school was relocated to the premises by the education department in 2017, according to the staff.

Kumari Priyanka, an assistant teacher, said, "In 2017, Urdu Primary School was relocated here. Our school has a shortage of classrooms. But that school has also been provided space, because it was an order. They have been given a room. In the same room, classes 1 to 5 are taught. There are 3 teachers. They divide the blackboard into 2 parts to teach."

She added, "It causes a lot of problems for students. They find it difficult to study and understand. Lack of adequate space for so many children also leads to high rate of absence of students."

Kameshwar PD Gupta, the district education officer, said, "We'll conduct an investigation. We'll have to see why this is happening. We might provide another room."
