Schools for classes 1 to 7 reopen in Mumbai after 20 months, but no buses add to parents woes

Schools for students of classes 1 to 7 reopened in Mumbai on Wednesday after over 20 months since they were shut due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. The schools in Pune will open from Thursday.

The municipal corporations of both the cities ordered the reopening of schools amid the rising cases of Omicron variant across the country and globe.

The schools have been asked to follow all Covid-19 protocols while RT-PCR test has been made mandatory for teachers and non-teaching staff who are not fully vaccinated yet.

Earlier, the schools were supposed to reopen in the first week of December but the decision had to be postponed due to emergence of Omicron variant of coronavirus.

But while it's good news for kids who have been stuck inside home for 20 months, parents are facing transport issues as schools are not starting bus services yet.

Schools and other educational institutions were closed in March 2020 after the outbreak of the pandemic and later online classes were started for students.
