Reena Rai, actress & partner of Deep Sidhu survived fatal crash: here's how

Reena Rai, the woman who was travelling with Deep Sidhu when the fatal accident occurred, is recovering and out of danger according to news agency PTI.

On Tuesday night, Deep Sidhu's SUV rammed into a stationary truck on Kundli-Manesar-Palwal highway near Kharkhoda in Haryana's Sonipat, police said on Tuesday.

Rai was on the left side of the car which was not heavily damaged. After the accident, the airbag on Rai's side opened immediately and prevented major injuries, as per police inputs.

Rai was wearing a seatbelt and her airbag did not burst after opening. However, the airbag exploded after opening in the case of Deep Sidhu.

The airbag saved any severe injuries to Rai's head or chest area after the accident, a miraculous save in the fatal crash.

Rai was admitted to Kharkhoda Hospital in Haryana's Sonipat. Deep Sidhu was declared dead on arrival. His mortal remains which were kept with authorities till an autopsy was conducted were handed over to his family on Wednesday morning.

Reena Rai is believed to be a US-based actress and according to her social media she was also crowned Miss South Asia in 2014. Rai and Sidhu have worked together in Punjabi films including Rang Panjab (2018) and upcoming film 'Desi' too.

The couple often shared photos with each other on their social media. Rai shared an image of the two on 14th February.

They celebrated Valentine's Day together and then were reportedly travelling from Delhi to Bathinda when Sidhu's car crashed into the truck near a toll booth in Haryana. The driver's side of the car was destroyed. The actor reportedly sustained severe head injuries and did not survive the crash.

Born in 1984 in Punjab, Deep Sidhu studied law and then forayed into the show business in 2015. He was a popular figure in farmers' protests against the three contentious farm laws that were repealed in November 2021.

Sidhu was also named an accused in the Republic Day 2021 Red Fort violence and was behind bars for 2 months and later released on bail.
