On camera: Violent clashes in Bengal, BJP blames TMC

Fierce clashes broke out in West Bengal's Bhatpara on the occasion of Subhas Chandra Bose's birth anniversary. The violence, which occurred in Bhatpara, was caught on camera.

BJP leaders accused TMC workers of attacking them when they were going to garland a statue of freedom fighter Bose. Some visuals showed BJP parliamentarian Arjun Singh being surrounded by a mob as his security personnel try to keep him safe. The security personnel had to brandish lathis and guns to keep the mob at bay.

Speaking to reporters later, Singh claimed that TMC workers had pelted stones and tried to attack him and BJP MLA Pawan Singh. "I spoke to the Governor and Speaker and gave them details of what happened. This will continue to happen under TMC rule. We will have to see many deaths. But we have vowed to oust the TMC like we ousted the CPM," he said.

The ruling Trinamool Congress did not immediately respond to the allegations.
