Central Bureau Of Investigation has initiated a preliminary enquiry to probe alleged irregularities in the construction and 'renovation' of a new residence for Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, ANI reported citing CBI sources.
The enquiry has been opened against 'unknown officials of the Delhi government', NDTV said, adding that an FIR will be registered if the CBI finds a prima facie case during the probe.&nbsp;
Notably, a massive row erupted after a Raj Niwas order issued on April 27 cited reports on alleged "gross irregularities" in the renovation of the residence by the PWD.
LG VK Saxena had also ordered officials to secure the records of expenditure and sought a report on the matter within 15 days in April.&nbsp;

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday detained several suspects during a massive multi-state crackdown at 53 locations on the terrorists-gangsters-drug smugglers' nexus, connected with &lsquo;listed terrorist&rsquo; Arsh Dalla and many dreaded gangsters.
Besides Arsh Dalla, others under the NIA scanner in these raids were notorious gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi, Sukha Duneke, Harry Maur, Narender alias Lali, Kala Jatheri, and Deepak Tinu.
Pistols, ammunition, large numbers of digital devices and incriminating material, were seized during the raids that spanned the six states of Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

A similar jewellery heist was reported from Delhi&rsquo;s Janpura area a day before. Robbers fled with loot at least worth Rs. 20 crores. Both incidents are being investigated.
The robbers came through the building&rsquo;s terrace and made their way to the strongroom on the ground floor, NDTV reported citing officials. The trio then drilled a hole through the vault to access the gold.

Varanasi law enforcement officials said the loose wire was attached to the main grid without permission. The electric wire has now been removed by electricity department officials, as per NDTV.

Wednesday evening saw massive traffic jam in Bengaluru city with many residents saying that it took them 2 hours to cover 1 km.
While one resident posted that some school buses could only drop children home by 8 p.m, another advised fellow Bangaloreans to leave the office only after 8 p.m.&nbsp;
According to a NDTV report quoting the city police, the traffic suddenly increased between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. The report added that the vehicle count in Bengaluru on Wednesdays is 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh but on September 27, the vehicular count was 3.5 lakh as of 7:30 pm.
The congestion is being attributed to several factors. Many residents were headed out of Bengaluru ahead of the long weekend. While September 28 is the Milad-Ud-Nabi holiday, a Karnataka bandh has been called for September 29 followed by Saturday and Sunday. October 2 is a national holiday due to Gandhi Jayanti. Reportedly, another factor was people were commuting for&nbsp; US comedian Trevor Noah's show in the city which was later cancelled due to technical reasons. Rains also added to the mayhem.&nbsp;

More than 180 people have been killed and several hundred injured since ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on May 3, when a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in the hill districts to protest against the majority Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
Meiteis account for about 53 per cent of Manipur's population and live mostly in the Imphal valley, while tribals, including Nagas and Kukis, constitute 40 per cent and reside mostly in the hill districts.&nbsp;

Out of around 1,100 people injured in the accident, around 900 had been treated and discharged, officials said.

More than 3 days after a triple train crash in Odisha, Railway officials provided an update regarding the injured passengers, discharged persons, and the latest death toll.
Divisional Railway Manager of the Eastern Central Railways Rinkesh Roy told ANI that out of around 1,100 people injured in the incident, around 900 had been discharged after treatment. He added that around 200 people are still being treated in various hospitals in Odisha.
Regarding the death toll, Roy said that 278 people perished in the tragedy. He said that 177 bodies had been identified and handed over, or the process for it had started. Around 101 bodies were yet to be identified.

Anti-govt protesters tried to attack Manipur CM's ancestral house in Imphal on Thursday nighr but security forces foiled the attempt

A mob tried to attack Chief Minister N Biren Singh&rsquo;s empty ancestral house on Thursday night, despite a security clampdown and curfew in the Imphal valley.
Security forces, however, were successful in foiling the attempt after firing in the air.
Singh lives in a separate, well-guarded official residence in the centre of the state&rsquo;s capital.
&ldquo;There was an attempt to attack the chief minister&rsquo;s ancestral house at Heingang locality in Imphal. Security forces stopped the mob around 100-150 metres away from the house,&rdquo; a police officer said.
Nobody stays in the house now though it too is guarded round the clock, the officer said.
The police officer said, &ldquo;Two groups of people came from different directions and approached the CM&rsquo;s ancestral residence but they were stopped.&rdquo; Several rounds of tear gas shells were fired by RAF and state police personnel to disperse the mob.
The authorities switched off the electricity connection in the entire area to help reduce the visibility of the protestors. More barricades were added to the previous ones near the house.
The protestors also burnt tyres in the middle of the nearby road.
Ambulances were seen advancing near the spot but till now there is no report of injury to any side.
The incident occurred amid violent protests by students over the death of two youths in Manipur rocked the state capital on Tuesday and Wednesday.
A mob vandalised the deputy commissioner's office in Imphal West district and torched two four-wheelers in the early hours of Thursday.
Curfew was re-imposed in the two districts -- Imphal East and West &ndash; on Wednesday as the security forces combatted the violent protests, which saw 65 demonstrators being injured since Tuesday.
A fresh bout of violence broke out in the state capital on Tuesday, a day after photos of the bodies of two youths - a man and a girl - who went missing in July went viral on social media.
Earlier, houses of several ministers were attacked in Manipur which has been witnessing ethnic strife for nearly five months.

A local court in Punjab on Thursday sent Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira to a two-day police remand in connection with a 2015 drugs case, a police official said.
Khaira was produced in the court in Fazilka's Jalalabad after being arrested from Chandigarh, the official said. Police had sought a seven-day remand from the court.
Earlier, a Punjab Police team raided the Chandigarh residence of Khaira and arrested him on the basis of an investigation conducted by a special investigation team led by Deputy Inspector General of Police Swapan Sharma in the drugs case.
The SIT was formed in April 2023.

Over Rs.122 crore have been paid out to advocates who argued for Karnataka in water dispute cases since 1990, as per a new RTI filing. Out of the hefty appearance fees pool, the lion&rsquo;s share was gone to senior lawyers, with some receiving over Rs. 20 crores.
Bar and Bench reported that a total of 41 lawyers have been paid in the last three decades for appearing in the Supreme Court and tribunal hearings.
Senior Advocate Anil Divan topped the list after receiving nearly 30 crores since 1990. Fali S Nariman, SS Jawali, Shyam Divan and Mohan Katarki were also among top recipients.

Madhya Pradesh Police have arrested accused auto driver in Ujjain's minor rape case, multiple reports said.
The driver, who was detained for interrogation, tried to escape from Police custody following which the police arrested him.
The accused, identified as Bharat Soni, was picked up after blood stains were found in his vehicle. Some others were also detained for interrogation.&nbsp;
