In the first instance, a Kolkata man has been diagnosed with a fungal disease that typically affects plants, NDTV reported.&nbsp;
The patient, 61, whose name has been withheld is a Kolkata-based plant mycologist. Experts following the case has highlighted that maintaining a close contact with plant fungi can spread in humans too.&nbsp;
A research study by Dr. Soma Dutta and Dr. Ujjwayini Ray of the Consultant Apollo Multispecialty Hospitals, Kolkata, study published in the 'journal Medical Mycology Case Report' said that the man was admitted in city hospital after suffering from hoarse voice, fatigue and difficulties swallowing for three months. Interestingly, he had no medical history of HIV infection, diabetes or any other chronic disease.
However, the patient was involved with decayed material, mushrooms and various plant fungi for his research.&nbsp;
The experts in the study have revealed that Chondrostereum purpureum, a plant fungus that causes silver leaf disease in plants, infected the man. Conventional techniques like microscopy and culture failed to identify the fungus. Exposure to the decaying material may be responsible to cause this rare infection."
&nbsp;The patient is said to be normal after two years of treatment and there is no evidence of recurrence. as per the research report.

Stating that there have been documented instances of hate crimes against Hindu-Americans over the last few decades in many parts of the country, the resolution said Hinduphobia is exacerbated and institutionalised by some in academia who support the dismantling of Hinduism and accuse its sacred texts and cultural practices of violence and oppression.

Hari Padman, who was accused of sexual harassment, was booked under Sections 354A (sexual harassment), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. He was also booked under relevant Sections of the Women Harassment Act.

Maharashtra reported a 63 percent jump in its daily Covid-19 cases with 694 new infections, the highest since October last year.
According to a state health department bulletin, no Covid-related deaths were reported in a day. The fatality rate stands at 1.82 percent in the state.
Amid concerns over a fresh spike of Covid cases and H3N2 influenza cases in the country, India saw over a 40 percent rise in the daily tally with 3,016 new infections in the last 24 hours on Thursday - the highest daily in nearly six months.&nbsp;

"But it does not mean that we will not be close partners and share many things. That's how we need to understand the role that India will play as a great nation on the global stage.
"We want to encourage that and support that and deepen this relationship, which is already very strong, probably the strongest people-to-people relationship of any country that the United States has on the global stage," he said.
The think tank -- Centre for a New American Security -- in a report said that the India-China border intrusions and clashes have become more frequent and threaten to lead to all-out conflict.
The increased prospect of India-China border hostility has implications for the United States and its Indo-Pacific strategy between the two Asian giants, it said.
The report said that Indian officials believe China is trying to contain India by forcing it to divert more resources into defending simultaneously both its western border with Pakistan and eastern flank with China and by weakening its willingness and ability to challenge Chinese ambitions to dominate the region.
Campbell told the think-tank, "Some of the steps that China has taken along this vast 5,000-mile border had been provocative and deeply concerning to Indian partners and friends." The think tank's report, authored by Lisa Curtis and Derek Grossman, has made several recommendations to help deter and respond to further Chinese aggression along the border with India.

Consumption of contaminated water may have led to the health scare, according to sources quoted by news agency PTI.

In a worrying case of suspected mass food poisoning, more than 130 students fell sick in Karnataka's Mangaluru on the night of 6 February 2023.
137 nursing and paramedical students staying at a private hostel fell sick after having dinner, police said. They complained of stomach ache, vomiting, and diarrhoea, and were admitted to hospitals.
Consumption of contaminated water may have led to the health scare, according to sources quoted by news agency PTI. The condition of some of the students is stated to be serious.
"We came to know that from 2 am, around 137 students complained of food poisoning, stomach ache, diarrhoea, and vomiting. The students were admitted to different hospitals. We're trying to find out the reason," Mangaluru Police Commissioner was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The renowned Metropolitan Museum of Art in United States will return 15 sculptures to India after it was learnt that the antiquities were illegally removed from the country and sold by disgraced dealer Subhash Kapoor.
In a statement on Thursday, the Met said it will transfer the 15 sculptures for return to the government of India. The works range in date from the 1st century BCE to the 11th century CE, and include terracotta, copper and stone.
All of the works were sold at one point by Subhash Kapoor, who is currently serving a prison sentence in India.
The value of the 15 Indian antiquities listed in the search warrant has been estimated as $1.201 million (nearly Rs 9.87 crore).
