Maharashtra: Doctors protest after a medical student is allegedly killed inside college campus

Medical students and resident doctors Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College and Hospital in Maharashtra's Yavatmal have gone on a strike after a final-year MBBS student was allegedly murdered on campus

24-year-old Ashok Pal was found in a badly injured state near the college's hostel on Wednesday following which he was admitted in the accident ward of the hospital where he died.

According to the complaint filed by medical superintendent Dr. Surendra Bhuyar, college authorities first thought that Pal had met with an accident, however stab injuries were found on his chest.

Meanwhile, two suspects have been taken into custody by the police.

The agitating medical students have demanded financial assistance to the family of the deceased, fast-track court hearing of the case, action against the accused, installation of CCTV cameras in college premises and posting of security personnel.

Former minister and Digras Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Rathod, the Yavatmal district collector, superintendent of police and senior hospital officials held discussions with the protesting students at college campus on Friday.

Rathod has said that he will take demands of the students to the chief minister and medical education minister and urged the students call off the strike.

Students and doctors across the state have been staging protests in solidarity with Pal.
