Gurugram restaurant barred wheelchair-bound woman from entry? Storm on social media

A controversy has hit a restaurant in Haryana's Gurugram after a specially-abled patron accused the eatery of discrimination.

Srishti Pandey posted a long thread on Twitter, detailing her experience at Raasta Gurgaon, and alleging that she was denied entry because she was in a wheelchair. She claimed that the incident occurred on the night of February 11 when she went to the restaurant for dinner with her friend's family.

Srishti alleged that when her group asked for a table, they were ignored twice, and the third time, were told that the "wheelchair cannot go inside". The restaurant staff allegedly told Srishti that the other patrons would get "disturbed" if she is allowed entry.

After arguing, the staff allowed the group to sit at a table outside, but Srishti said that since it was cold, it was unsafe for her to sit outside as her body gets spastic.

In an emotional post, Srishti slammed the lack of empathy for specially-abled people. "But is me just existing that much of a disturbance for you? Why do I always have to fight for the smallest of things? Why was I denied entry in a public place? Who are they to deny my entry just like that?" she asked.

With the post gaining attention, Gurugram police sought Srishti's details to take further action against the restaurant.

Raasta's founder-partner also commented on the issue. Goumtesh Singh replied to Srishti's post and said that he is personally looking into the incident. He said, "Let me start by apologising on behalf of entire team for any bad experience that you may have had. Please rest assured if any of our members is found in the wrong, appropriate action will be taken against them."
