The Supreme Court on 9 September 2022 paused the demolition of a certain portion of the Curlies restaurant in Goa which has been in news over the death of BJP leader Sonali Phogat.

The Supreme Court put a stay on the demolition of structures situated on a particular survey number only. The court passed the order on the condition that no commercial activities be conducted at the beach shack on Anjuna beach. The apex court allowed demolition of structures situated on land other than the specified survey number.

The Goa government has accused the restaurant of violating Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules.

In August 2022, BJP leader and social media influencer Sonali Phogat had been seen partying at the restaurant hours before her death. She was allegedly drugged at the shack, and its owner Edwin Nunes was among those arrested. He later secured bail.
