Alwar gangrape case: BJP slams Priyanka's 'birthday party' amid zero arrests

A differently-abled girl was reportedly found abandoned near a flyover in Alwar on January 11 after being allegedly gangraped.

The alleged gangrape of a minor girl in Rajasthan has erupted into a political controversy.

A differently-abled girl was reportedly found abandoned near a flyover in Alwar on January 11. She was bleeding heavily and was admitted to a hospital. The victim underwent a two-and-a-half-hour surgery, after which her condition was stable, as per reports.

However, no arrests have been made so far, putting the Ashok Gehlot government under pressure from the Opposition BJP. The latter's national spokesperson Sambit Patra questioned Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's 'Ladki Hu, Lad Sakti Hu' campaign in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh while such crimes are taking place under her party's government in Rajasthan. Patra claimed that a BJP delegation seeking to meet Priyanka over the case was snubbed. "Our delegation only went there to request Priyanka to seek a report from Rajasthan CM. Why are crimes against women rising in Congress-ruled Rajasthan?" he asked.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan's Women and Child Welfare minister Mamta Bhupesh said that CCTV footage is being scanned to identify the culprits. She also made an appeal for societal change to stop rapes. "The government alone can't stop such incidents. Every person will have to take up this issue. The barbarians are hidden among us. There is no mark on the barbarians' foreheads," she said.
