Gorakhpur (UP), Jul 1 (PTI) – Uttar Pradesh's inaugural AYUSH university, named Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University, was inaugurated recently. Speaking at the event, Governor Anandiben Patel urged farmers to embrace the 'One Village, One Medicinal Plant' initiative aimed at enhancing herbal farming and boosting rural incomes.

The governor highlighted the university's potential to become a pivotal hub for Ayurveda in Purvanchal, which is the eastern region of Uttar Pradesh. She encouraged local farmers around the university to focus on growing specific medicinal plants, suggesting that each village should specialise in one particular herb. This strategy could enhance diversity and improve the marketability of these plants.

Such initiatives, Governor Patel pointed out, would not only offer economic advantages but also contribute towards the creation of safe and side-effect-free medicines.

Furthermore, she underscored the necessity of making Ayurvedic and homeopathic treatments accessible to all societal segments. She proposed distributing these remedies through Anganwadi centres with the active participation of doctors, social workers, and public representatives.

"Even with advancements in various medical fields, we must ask ourselves if we have truly reached every individual," she remarked.
