Tripura's Largest Ganja Uprooting Operation in Sepahijala

Agartala: In a significant crackdown, law enforcement agencies in Tripura's Sepahijala district have uprooted and destroyed approximately 4.28 lakh ganja saplings, officials reported on Monday.

This operation marked the largest such endeavor in the district to date, accomplished over the course of a single day, as noted in an official communication.

The operation commenced with intelligence inputs that led a team headed by Smriti Kanta Bardhan, the officer-in-charge of Jatrapur Police Station, to team up with Tripura State Rifles personnel. Together, they eradicated nearly 2 lakh saplings from 12 nursery plots deep within the forested areas of South Moheshpur, Katalia, under the Sonamura sub-division on Sunday.

Parallel to this, another extensive operation unfolded across several zones, predominantly on forest land, within the jurisdiction of the Sonamura Police Station. This effort was spearheaded by officer-in-charge Tapas Das with assistance from BSF and forest personnel, resulting in the destruction of 19 plots encompassing 35 acres and approximately 2.28 lakh ganja plants.

In total, the collaborative operations led to the destruction of over 4.28 lakh ganja plants, marking one of the district's largest single-day anti-drug efforts. Over the course of August, law enforcement dismantled around 7,91,000 ganja plants across 30 acres and eradicated 4,95,000 immature saplings in the Sonamura sub-division.

In a related development, three individuals from Bihar, including two women, were apprehended after authorities recovered 29 kg of dried ganja from them at Agartala Railway Station on Saturday night, as confirmed by Obadur Rahaman, the officer-in-charge of Agartala GRP Police Station.
