Security forces in Manipur seized substantial arms in Kangpokpi, detained a Moreh resident for smuggling, and arrested two militants.

Imphal, Aug 28 (PTI) A significant stockpile of arms and ammunition was seized in Manipur's Kangpokpi district, according to police on Thursday.

During an operation in the forested area between Maohing and Changoubung village on Wednesday, authorities confiscated an American M16 rifle with a magazine containing 10 rounds, a .303 rifle, two Colt Machine Guns (CMGs), three pistols, a .22 rifle, six bolt-action rifles, two short-barreled rifles, three improvised projectile launchers, two hand grenades, and four radio sets.

In another operation near Kotzim village, security forces discovered a carbine, a single-barrel rifle, three improvised mortars, two hand grenades, and three rifles with pull mechanisms, as reported by the police.

Meanwhile, a man was detained in Moreh, a border town in Tengnoupal district, for his involvement in extorting truckers and commercial establishments, smuggling, and supplying arms to militants.

The suspect, V Shiva, also known as Ishwar Pandey (36), was apprehended in ward 4, according to police sources.

In addition, two militants were captured in the state over the past 24 hours.

Sarangthem Ibomcha Meitei, aged 22, was arrested at his home in Itham Wangma in Imphal East district. He was a member of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup group.

Suraj Oinam, aged 23, was detained in Lamshang in Imphal West district. He was an active member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG).
