Heavy Rains and Landslides Disrupt Key Road in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar, Sep 4: Heavy rains have led to landslides near Jang town in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district, causing disruptions on key sections of the strategic Balipara-Charduar-Tawang (BCT) road. This road is a crucial supply route to frontier regions.

Despite the challenges, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) managed to restore traffic movement by midnight on Wednesday, ensuring that military convoys and essential supplies continued to flow uninterrupted. This was confirmed by a Defence spokesperson on Thursday.

The landslides occurred on Wednesday evening, blocking critical segments of this strategically important road.

"Personnel from the 42 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) initiated clearance operations. Working under arduous conditions and continuous rainfall, the teams succeeded in reopening the stretches and restoring traffic flow swiftly," stated Lt Col Mahendra Rawat, a Defence spokesperson based in Guwahati.

The BRO teams also assisted stranded tourists, providing them with food and water until the roads were safe for travel.

The BCT road holds significant military importance as it serves as a lifeline for troops stationed in the strategically sensitive Tawang sector and surrounding border areas. The rapid restoration of this route not only relieved civilians but also ensured the operational readiness of security forces guarding the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
