Kuwait fire: victims worked for firm whose MD made film on workers' misery

Around 40 Indians, including at least 23 Keralites, lost their lives in the Kuwait fire tragedy.

According to an Indian Express report, the victims worked for a firm called NBTC whose Managing Director is a Malayali businessman KG Abraham.

Ironically, Abraham had co-produced a film Aadujeevitham or 'The Goat Life' which portrayed the trials and tribulations of a Malayali immigrant labourer in Saudi Arabia. The movie which released earlier this year made over ₹150 crore.

Months after the film's release, the fire tragedy has drawn attention to the movie and its co-producer.

NBTC which started with 90 workers has expanded its operations into oil and gas, among other sectors and now employs around 15,000 people.

Meanwhile, Kuwaiti authorities have vowed to promptly investigate the incident.
